Sunday Respite – ‘The Good the Bad and the Ugly’

Here is something different for a Sunday Respite.  There was nothing better than a Clint Eastwood Western back in the day.

On January 2018, the Danish Broadcasting Corporation (DR) hosted three orchestral concerts called ‘Duellen – Morricone trækker først’ (The Dual – Morricone draws first) which included some of the soundtrack from various western and gangster movies.

This is their version of some of the music from the western classic: The Good, the Bad and the Ugly. The concert was hosted by Kristian Leth and conducted by Sarah Hicks. The performance was orchestrated by The Danish National Symphony Orchestra (DR Symfoniorkester) with help from The Danish Concert Choir (DR Koncertkoret).

It reminds us how much the sound track brings to a film.

Wonderful. Ennio Moriconi was a real musician and composer. Such talent. I loved his music to The Mission. I think our “great” composers today are largely those who score movies. I’d rather listen to anything by Hans Zimmer than a pipsqueak composer foisted off on us at a UCLA performance which sounded like an orchestra tuning up.

Unappreciated composers who don’t get the attention they so richly deserve. Hats off to the Dutch orchestra for bringing this to the ‘Common folk” — our Phila Orchestra at the time I was in Phila, refused anything but the old Mahler and what not… always so heavy. Not that there is anything wrong with that, but just that constant old stuff. Muti was the Conducter and we would go and stand in line for the 2 buck tickets in the peanut gallery. 5 floor walk up
