What could be better than to start the holiday off with a rendition of “Summertime.” I discovered this arrangement last year, and will continue the tradition of posting this song by George Gershwin on this holiday weekend.
With at least 25,000 versions, Porgy and Bess’s opening aria, ‘Summertime’, is the most covered song in the world.
Written in 1934, ‘Summertime’ was one of the first compositions George Gershwin worked on for his brand-new opera Porgy and Bess. The jazz-inspired song is a lullaby for Clara to sing to her child, and it is reprised several more times throughout the opera. Bee-you-tea-full! So expressive. That gal does not have hay fever, for sure.
Myself – I just got a new tenant installed in my most recent vacancy yesterday, and couldn’t wait to get back to the summer yard. I cut out old banana plants this morning, tied protective bags around our apples, pruned my plum that just finished bearing, cleaned up a shelf in my storage room, and laid out newbies to plant in the garden. Breakfast and this repose now. 🙂

You sure have been a busy one! All that fresh fruit…. I had a Northern so called banana plant… would grow to 40 feet each year and a so called inedible fruit. Did it take the water but was fun. Glad you enjoyed. 🙂
