The government could require you to hand over your passport to tech companies before posting online in a move that’s been slammed by experts.
The Australian government is mulling a proposal which would require citizens to provide at least two forms of identification if they want to use social media, under the guise of ‘battling online bullying and more easily report users to authorities.
I thought the Aussies had more sense. But then again they were more than happy to give up their guns.
“Are we turning into North Korea? This is Orwellian,” one user wrote on Twitter after reading the recommendation.
Under the guise of preventing online bullying, the Morrison government’s plan would require ‘100 points of identification’ in order to use Twitter, Facebook, Instagram – and online dating platforms such as Tinder, according to news.com.au. To satisfy the ‘100 points’ requirement, citizens would need to combine ‘Category 1’ methods of identification (birth certificate, passport, citizenship papers) with ‘Category 2’ ID (Valid government-issued license, public employee photo ID, doctor’s note).

Think Canada. I find it hard to believe that Australia capitulated.

There is no federal law about cyber-bullying in the US … but every one of our 50 states does have laws that relate to harassing, stalking, or threatening others. No amount of anonymity will protect anyone from being identified as the perpetrator of such crimes, including hate crimes or those involving moral turpitude. Anyone who thinks that we “mask” our identity online is merely fooling themselves. State law enforcement may not know our names immediately, but it will only take about five minutes to find out who is on the other end of our internet protocol. In Australia, I suppose the central authority has taken on this function, rather than Australian states and territories, because they can “better manage” the problem.
Still, the government’s announcement is an official admission by the Australian government that the people of Australia are no longer deemed able to raise good and decent citizens … that is, people who respect others in the way they wish to be respected, a nation of cowards that have to hide behind a sobriquet while harassing or stalking others. If I lived in Australia, I would be embarrassed by this announcement/protocol in dealing with the products of piss-poor parenting.
I’m happy to let the Australians work out their own problems. How has technology changed human society? Oh, let me count the ways.

Agree… and all of course stored in the Utah Data Center…. all of this at one time was done in the dark of the night and we preferred to remain ignorant of what was what. I find this particularly disturbing that apparently most everyone finds this acceptable…..9/11 … they did far more than kill 3000 Americans and towers… they brought about all of this under the guise of protecting us. “Your papers please.”

On one hand, I stand against the enforced liberalism of Facebook.
On the other hand, with only 34 followers and the WordPress allowance of broadcasting my posts through a Facebook profile, it is tempting to seek out the one or two extra readers that come through Facebook.

When asked why I’m not on Facebook my retort is why are you on it? Unconvinced by their reasoning I always always always end with the time worn adage “Discretion is the better part of valor.” I won’t lie, I was on Facebook in 2012 for less than a week. 🤮

In the very beginning I was on it under “a name” just to keep in touch with family. It was a way of hearing about what the teenagers in the family were up to… no one writes anymore- as well as nice pics of get togethers. That was it… then it turned into something really nasty. So it goes.

Here’s a Monday Morning Story…😊
Quite a number of years back I joined a dating platform the one Dr Phil was advertising (I can’t remember the name)
It looked so nice from the couples who were on TV professing their love & loyalty to each other
So I tried it for 30 days
I must admit it was one of the worst experiences I ever had
Guys from all over the USA who were too far away to go on a date with would email me with their filty thoughts
After 30 days I did not renew my membership
As we had to give ourselves a “title” before we told a bit about who we are what we looked like what we are interested in & what one is hoping to find
I did wonder if my “title” might have provoked the insanity

Don’t give them the PERMISSION shut it off
Go to settings on your phone then apps click on each app then click on PERMISSION
Shut off all the PERMISSIONS
And don’t be alarmed when it reads the world will end if you DENY that app PERMISSION
Mine is all off NO PERMISSION DENY and as of this comment the world hasn’t ended!
I also have MAPS disabled if I need it I’ll turn it back on
We do have the power you just have to use it
