UPDATE: Please note the information regarding Trump is incorrect as the numbers stop at 2017 plus one shooting in 2018. Sorry for the incorrect information as given.
There have been eight mass shootings under Clinton, eight under Bush, and 24 under Obama.Ten Mass Shootings out of 24 since 1966 have happened under the Obama Administration. Four under Donald Trump.
One would never know the statistics with the pounding drum beat blaming Donald Trump. Did anyone blame Obama for all of the mayhem under his watch? Johnson? Reagan, Bush, Obama? Let’s step through the fog of mass shootings. Republicans are responsible for the violence?
Bonus information Democrat cities:
200th person Murdered in Baltimore this weekend.
7 killed this weekend in Chicago. 53 shot.
But I digress:
The first mass shooting in the collective American memory was the University of Texas at Austin shooting in August 1966. The shooter, armed with six weapons and ensconced at the top of the University of Texas Tower, killed 17 people, wounding more than 30 others.
Johnson’s first reaction sounds familiar to 21st-century ears. On August 2, 1966, the day after the shooting, White House press secretary Bill Moyers read a statement by the president that said, “What happened is not without a lesson: that we must press urgently for the legislation now pending in Congress to help prevent the wrong person from obtaining firearms.”
The statement added that “[t]he bill would not prevent all such tragedies. But it would help reduce the unrestricted sale of firearms to those who cannot be trusted in their use and possession.”
In July 1984, during Ronald Reagan’s first term as president, a gunman killed 21 people at a McDonald’s in San Ysidro, California.
Unlike Johnson, Reagan did not say anything publicly about the shooting. In fact, a search by the New York Times revealed that “[t]he Times did not report any comment from the administration of President Ronald Reagan. His public papers show no statements on the subject in the days following.”
When the Tylenol poisonings took place in Chicago in 1982, Reagan had also stood back, letting Johnson & Johnson take the lead in the response. Reagan appears to have been of the view that local tragedies should be handled at the local level, deferring to private-sector entities, when appropriate, to handle problems.
Reagan also appears to have remained quiet after the other two mass shootings during his presidency, one in Oklahoma and one in California. The 1986 Edmond, Oklahoma, shooting appears to be the first one in which a disgruntled post-office employee was the killer, the start of an unfortunate trend of about half a dozen of these shootings that would inspire the phrase “going postal.”
Similarly, Reagan’s successor and former vice president, George H. W. Bush, also generally avoided making statements about the four mass shootings during his administration.
The tradition of presidential silence in the wake of most mass shootings came to an end in the 1990s during the Clinton administration.
President Clinton did not weigh in on every one of the eight mass shootings during his tenure, but these events were now frequent enough to warrant presidential attention.
Eight under Clinton, eight under Bush, and 24 under Obama (see chart below).
Deadliest American Mass Shootings
Since Johnson, at the most the perception was that the President’s job was to console. Most remained uninvolved. Only one thing that has never happened before, they never were blamed for mass shootings. Why should Trump be blamed for it now?
A big tip of the hat goes to Drake’s Place for the lead.
Defending Faith And Freedom: Mass Shootings Under the Obama Administration:
Ten (10) Mass Shootings out of 24 since 1966 have happened under the Obama Administration

Agree with the premise. But without defining ‘mass shooting’ I’m afraid your stats on how many have occurred is misleading.
You need to make sure you identify what a ‘mass shooting’ is, because the FBI’s definition (not saying it’s the right definition) indicates the level of mass shooting is roughly unchanged, though down from Clinton…

The stats came from the LA Times. Your point is well made. I could not find the original post of the Times for attribution. However the graph has been used a various reputable sites. Thanks..

It’s not the guns.
It’s the power they want over you.
The power to make you give up your rights.
The power to subjugate you to their whims.
The guns are meant to prevent that.
It’s the guns.

That there are 26 recognized regional languages in Venezuela illustrates that a polyglot country can prosper as one. Who needs guns to keep it together?

I read that. How about all of the acid attacks there? Apparently if its “mass” it means more. Death is a singular event for each individual.. whether one dies in a group or otherwise.. Thus Chicago…

A blast from the past:
NYC, Christmas season, 1963.
A boy stabs his grandmother to death for refusing to give him 50 cents. His answer to the police upon being asked why he killed her he said they do it on TV all the time. Would stronger knife laws prevented this murder? Of course this is anecdotal but it’s something I never forgot. “The more things change the more they stay the same” -author unknown.

I thought of Genovese also as I read Peter’s comment.
How often in the past when shootings happened have we heard from the Left “not to politicize it”, and here we are with all of the Left doing just that. They are all so detestable.
Thank you for the mention and link. Appreciate it. (You are welcome to use anything, anytime).

By the time a nut ball comes into possession of a lethal weapon, it’s already too late and something bad is going to happen. It may not be a mass shooting; it could be the murder of a parent, spouse, love interest, or kids who won’t quiet down after bed time. The instrument used almost doesn’t matter: firearm, knife, hammer, tire iron, whatever. The fire arm used in a murder didn’t do it, nor the knife, or any other instrument; the whacko holding it did. If we were serious about wanting to stop these incidents (noting that the citizens of this country have always had access to firearms and the phenomena of mass shootings is a recent development), then we would be talking about video games created by psychotics for the use of psychotics; we’d be talking about shitty parenting; we’d be talking about what has become a standard practice of medicating children to change their behaviors in social settings. We might even have a conversation about public school teachers who are brainwashing our children to act stupidly.
Now if our “leaders” aren’t willing to get down and dirty and have these discussions, then I think they ought to shut the hell up about the lethality of guns. Guns aren’t the problem; psychotic young people are the problem and government’s unwillingness to tackle the real issue of why we have so many bat-shit crazy youngsters. There was something that could have been done to prevent that Florida school shooting a few years back, but no government official did a thing to prevent it. It wasn’t politically correct to arrest and incarcerate a nut boy for “observation.” So innocent kids died. Who’s most culpable? Was it nut boy, or the dozens of people who could have intervened, but didn’t?
I do share your concern about Trump’s likely actions in the wake of these two shootings. He’s under a lot of pressure from the kids and who knows where this will lead us.

I was no fan of bump stocks…in fact decreased the accuracy greatly. But once you start confiscating by executive order, kattie bar the door. Banning for purchase one thing…confiscating another, right now I could pay a 5k fine and a year in jail for owning one… I don’t….
I agree with your points… my generation was the first to grow up with T.V… Dragnet let us know what happened if you broke the law.. So different now.

I was reading an article over at Townhall; without allegiance there is no sense in defending. Well, if the dems have their way, there wont be any allegiance (thinking about your post from yesterday about the socialist dems). The enemy is not an invader-its coming from inside and that is the MSM and the politicians who are more than happy to rule the people with an iron fist.
