On Saturday the Autumn Equinox took place. Many cultures celebrate this event and have for centuries, by many names. Some call it Mabon.
The Autumnal Equinox. Mother Earth gives up her bounty to us and prepares to go into her slumber to rest.
The Autumn Equinox divides the day and night equally, and we take a moment to pay our respects to the impending dark. We also give thanks to the waning sunlight, as we store our harvest of this year’s crops.
On Saturday, September 22, both the Northern and Southern hemispheres experienced an equal amount of daylight. For those of us in the Northern Hemisphere, it marks the beginning of fall, with daylight hours continuing to shorten until the winter solstice in December.
