Obama will return land on Okinawa before he leaves office

Is there anything more Obama can do to anger us and our brave military men and women?  He does this on the anniversary of the attack on Pearl Harbor. Nice isn’t it. What right goes he have pray tell? GOP anybody home??

Ash Carter visits Japanese aircraft carrier on 75th anniversary of the Pearl Harbor attack and announces US will return land on Japanese islands before Obama leaves office

  • US military is set to hand over 10,000 acres of land in Okinawa to Japan
  • Carter made the announcement while aboard a Japanese aircraft carrier
  • The timing – on the anniversary of the Pearl Harbor attack – caused anger
  • The land is currently used by the Marine Corps for jungle warfare training
  • But on December 22, the US military will formally hand back the land on island
  • The US first captured Okinawa during invasion in the Second World War

That training area will now be returned to the Japanese, Carter declared Monday – just one day before the 75th anniversary of the unprovoked attack on Pearl Harbor.

Carter made the announcement during a meeting with Japanese minister Kenji Wakamiya on the deck of the helicopter carrier Izumo, harbored in Yokosuka Naval Base in the city of Yokosuka.

The handover will be largest area of land to be given up by the US military in Japan since they handed back control of Okinawa in 1972.

So I guess the military will be leaving. It will be recorded by the MSM in O’s legacy that he saved Okinawa from capsizing like, i.e. Guam.

And yet another indignity to America service men courtesy of the man who calls himself Obama. I hope there’s some way to stop this. Like you said, “GOP, where are you!?”

Help me out here, if you please….

Why is this a problem? I agree, the timing sucks. I have no doubt this day was chosen because of its significance. But, it’s still their land, isn’t it?

Sure, no problem. But don’t call us when China acts up and once again attacks Japan. Why do you think they are building those islands in the Pacific and buzzing the islands? We cough of big bucks to protect them.. Lets go home and let them have their island. By the way, I figure you didn’t lose any family in the war?

Bunker, it’s seems my comment upset you? If so, I am sorry, that was not my intent. My comment had nothing to do with the war. It’s about the Constitution and the authority it delegates to the federal government. My frame of reference is always the Constitution. Always.

There is no authority delegated to the federal government by the Constitution to build and staff military bases in foreign countries. The Constitution says our military is to be used for the common defense of the states. There is no authority for the feds to use our military for offensive actions. Furthermore, our military can only act beyond our borders upon a Congressional declaration of war. The federal government has absolutely no authority to use our military for policing the world.

So, yes! Close all foreign bases and bring our military home!

P.S. Eliminate the CIA, too! It’s a complete and total violation of the Constitution.

I’ve served on Okinawa. It was a land hard won by the blood of thousands of American young men. Give it back to the Japanese? Well, of course it is true that Okinawa does belong to Japan since the United States formerly transferred the island to Japanese control in the early 1970s. At the same time, a Status of Forces Agreement provided that the Japanese would allow the US to retain certain lands for training purposes. In exchange, the US would continue to defend Japan from those who would destroy that island … notably, China. Now Obama seeks to undo this arrangement. As Chief Executive and Commander in Chief of the Armed Forces, it is within Hussein’s prerogative to do this … so that in the future, more thousands of Americans can die expelling China from an island that they believe rightly belongs to them. The problem, or so it would seem, isn’t so much that Obama is returning these training grounds to the Japanese as it is that the American people elected Obama to the presidency. Elections have consequences. Should Obama return these training areas to the Japanese? Emphatically, no. The Chinese will think twice, maybe even twice squared before attacking a land occupied by the United States Armed Forces. They will not hesitate to make incursions against an island (they think belongs to them) against the Japanese. Obama is an idiot and related to another idiot named Jimmy Carter who signaled that the USA has no interest in Taiwan.

Thank you very much for the detailed reply.

If I may ask, please quote where the Constitution allows the feds to station our military in a foreign country – we are not at war with China, Japan or any other country of which I am aware. Ergo, the government can’t use our military to ‘occupy’ any country.

The federal government has only the authority to use our military to defend the states. The federal government cannot enter into any agreement to defend any country against another country. That power is not found any where in the Constitution.

That is my entire point about all of this. The feds are using our military for purposed not authorized by the Constitution. A Status of Forces Agreement is illegal, unconstitutional, illegitimate, not part of our federal government’s Constitutionally enumerated powers.

Our military can only be used for defense, defense, defense of the states. In addition, the military can only be used when Congress has declared war.

Our government is not Constitutionally authorized to defend other countries; our military is not authorized to occupy any country or be used to defend or attack anyone who is not attacking us.

Here’s the thing….do we follow the Constitution or not? Following the Constitution means following every part of it not just the parts with which we agree. We can’t ‘cherry-pick’ the Constitution.

I agree we are very much over extended. Last I posted we had soldiers in 150 countries. Way to many but it was perceived that peace through strength could be achieved through the Status of Forces agreements as stated by Mustang throughout the world. That was a foreign policy we have held for many years. Russia and China would have moved against their neighbors by now… it is the way of history because it does repeat itself. We can no longer afford to play our roll, so lets see how this all works out.

Love ya, Bunker, and your readers, really do!

Growing up, my mom told me numerous times that my extreme loyalty, sense of fairness and justice would cause problems for me with others. She was right (darn that woman, lol).

I understand that the foreign policies espoused by the different administrations of our federal governments are just as you said. However, those policies weren’t Constitutional then and they certainly aren’t Constitutional now. People have a really hard time differentiating between legal actions and tradition.

I’ma gonna keep sipping on this whiskey and play some of my games, now.

        Peace! MAGA!!!

Laura try this. December 4th was St. Barbara’s Day, Patron Saint of Field Artillery.
I copied the following recipe from another site. Myself don’t dare try it. 🙂
        Artillery Punch.
        by Laurie Helmich

1 pound sugar 1 quart champagne
3 lemons 1 quart Old Jamaica Rum
        2 oranges 1-quart sherry
        1-quart strong tea 2-pints brandy

Put sugar in the bowl, add grated rind of three lemons, juice of two lemons, juice of two oranges, pour in boiling tea. Cover and cool. When cool, add rum, sherry, and brandy. Chill. When ready to serve, add champagne. Dilute with one or two quarts of soda for other branches of service.
