Is Chess racist because white goes first?

This is bad news for people who are into chess.

Croatian chess player Antonio Radic (aka Agadmator) had his popular chess videos blocked by Google’s YouTube due to unspecified “harmful and dangerous” content.

Computer scientists at Carnegie Mellon suspect Radic’s discussion of ‘black vs. white’ with a grandmaster accidentally triggered YouTube’s AI filters.

Running simulations with software trained to detect hate speech, they found more than 80 percent of chess videos flagged for hate speech lacked any—but did include terms like ‘black,’ ‘white,’ ‘attack’ and ‘threat.’

Chess Is Racist Because White Moves First

The notion that somehow the ancient pastime of chess is inherently racist due to the rule of white pieces moving first has been broached on an Australian taxpayer-funded national radio network.

The controversy arose when the national broadcaster ABC proposed a radio slot on the matter Tuesday and sought an interview with John Adams, an economist who represented the Australian Chess Federation in 2015.

“The ABC have taken the view that chess is RACIST given that white always go first,” he said.

Adams further explained the ABC was looking for a chess offical to comment on whether the rules should be altered.

“Trust the taxpayer funded national broadcaster to apply ideological Marxist frameworks to anything & everything in Australia,” he added.

Just when you think the world cannot go off the rails any further there is always a surprise isn’t there? Censors will be everywhere. Next our phone calls? E-Mails?

Classical music’s long overdue reckoning with racism

Ever wonder what other social/cultural  aspect of our life was left that was not filled with “Racism?” Well  Moonbattery found it. Classical music. Yes, not enough Blacks. But of course. So I am done with baseball, football because I am sick of it. Now classical music?

On the same day that the New York Times called for using Affirmative Action as a wrecking ball against classical music, its woke twin the Washington Post published a piece entitled “That Sound You’re Hearing Is Classical Music’s Long Overdue Reckoning With Racism.

”Data collected from 500 American orchestras for a 2016 study by the League of American Orchestras paints a starkly white picture when it comes to diversity in classical organizations. Its key finding: the “proportion of nonwhite musicians represented in the orchestra workforce — and of African American and Hispanic/Latino musicians in particular — remains extremely low.”

The systemic racism that runs like rot through the structures of the classical music world exists somewhere between broad statistical data and intimate personal disclosure. And right now, in what seems like a promising turn, a range of responses to it — individual, artistic and institutional — feels, at long last, audible.

On the individual level, many in the classical community are turning to anonymously operated social media accounts as a way to air personal experiences with racism in the classical world, from the conservatory classroom to the orchestra pit.

The piece denounces American orchestras as “starkly white.” This condemnation is followed by a revealing paragraph:

The proportion of Hispanic and Latino musicians grew from just 1.8 percent in 2002 to 2.5 percent in 2014; while over the same 12-year period, the proportion of black musicians languished at around 1.8 percent. … And between 2010 and 2016, black conductors and music directors have accounted for just 2 to 6 percent of the field.

Recall that the media is enraged that orchestras recruit musicians based on blind auditions, so that no one knows what race they are. Not so with conductors and music directors, who according to the Compost’s numbers are up to 3.33 times more likely to be black. Yet again, we see that racial discrimination works in favor of blacks, not against them.

Top US general Milley and Sec.of Defense Esper testify and dump on Trump

Below the radar yesterday was a hearing that should give us all heartburn. The hearing?

House Armed Services Hearing with Secretary Esper and General Milley.

I have already opined about Esper et al before:

Trump Loyalists no where to be found – Mattis, Esper attack Trump

What is with a General who thinks they are above the President? Mattis resigned/fired over Trump’s Syrian policy. Then we had the Secretary of Defense now complaining how he had to “tag along” with Trump and walk through Lafayette Square with Trump carrying a bible. Are there no loyalists?  Not satisfied he goes on…..

Setting the predicate: A refresher.

Back to the hearing yesterday:

Defense Secretary Mark Esper and Joint Chiefs of Staff Chair Gen. Mark Milley testifed before the House Armed Services Committee

Like the country it serves, the U.S. military is fighting an internal battle against racism, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Gen. Mark Milley said Thursday, but old names and symbols of that enemy are present and strong enough to sow division.

“Divisiveness leads to defeat,” Milley told the House Armed Services Committee.

“There is no place in our armed forces … for symbols of racism, bias or discrimination.”

Milley and Esper

First out of the box, let talk about the re-naming of military bases. Am I invested in it one way or another? No. My military friends who had not a clue about the names of the bases they passed through have memories based on the present names and would want to keep them the same. But the bigger issue is that these Generals and the Secretary of Defense apparently believe they do not have to support their Commander-in-Chief’s position.

I can’t expect my stalwart readers to listen to a two hour hearing. I can because I am still locked down here in COVID land. Let me give you a couple of highlights I found.

National Parks latest target of ‘systemic racism’

This figures that somehow our park system is racist. Self-segregation? Sure. It’s hard work chugging up and down the peaks and valleys.  Better yet, the next step will be to return the parks to whatever tribe figures out a way to lay claim. Bet the activist judges will be happy to support the notion.

“The outdoors and public lands suffer from the same systemic racism that the rest of our society does,” Joel Pannell, associate director of the Sierra Club, said in an ABC report, titled “America’s Great White Outdoors.” The report called the parks “stubborn bastions of self-segregation.”

“If we don’t address this, and we don’t see how all these things are interrelated, then we’re going to risk losing everything,” Pannell said. “You’re not going to have public lands to enjoy.” ???????

ABC cited a National Park Service Study but did not link to it:

New government data, shared first with ABC News, shows the country’s premier outdoor spaces — the 419 national parks — remain overwhelmingly white. Just 23 percent of visitors to the parks were people of color, the National Park Service found in its most recent 10-year survey; 77 percent were white. Minorities make up 42 percent of the U.S. population.

The U.S. Census Bureau projects people of color will be a majority in America by 2044 — a demographic shift that will impact park attendance and finances. Community advocates say physical and mental health for minority communities is also at risk.

The ABC reported on efforts aimed at “diversifying the outdoors”:

Many advocates say public information about parks and outdoor activities are not tailored to communities of color. Posted signs, for example, are mostly in English rather than Spanish. Park ranger uniforms that resemble what is worn by law enforcement are intimidating to some immigrants and minorities in light of documented cases of profiling.

Are the signs of “white supremacy, extremism” up in poll of active duty troops true?

“Them and Us.” The Progressives continue to divide us as their hallmark strategy, We would be remiss if we did not keep in mind that targeting the military as those to be fearful of makes sense and is included in festering this division. Fostering division among the ranks another strategy.

Accusations of racism, the military a “bastion of white supremacy” continues the targeted attack on those that protect us. We have seen the fruits if their attacks on our law enforcement agencies.

Our intrepid Mustang gives us this post regarding a disturbing article that appeared in the Military Times 6 February 2020

The latest Military Times Poll of active duty troops found that more than 1 in 3 have seen signs of white supremacist or similarly extremist ideology in the ranks, an increase from last year’s survey.

I do not know how much money the company is making selling newspapers to military personnel and their families.  I also do not know its circulation.  What I do know is that the media group is owned by liberals, who invest in other media enterprises, and that they seem focused on changing (through nefarious means) American culture.

Here’s mine.  This proposition is pure balderdash, underscored by the fact that “Cassie Miller, a research and investigations specialist for the Southern Poverty Law Center, said …

With three decades of military service, let me just say:

Yes, there are people wearing the uniform of our country who harbor racial or ethnic biases.  There are also people who harbor prejudices against women in uniform.  There are people wearing military uniforms who hate their NCOs and officers.  Some even detest calf’s liver.  Here are a few more facts:

  • They are not all white
  • They do not represent one-third of our active duty, reserve, or retired forces.
  • There is no factual basis for the propositions put forth by the writer.
  • Reliance on the Southern Poverty Law Center is shoddy journalism.
  • Publishing a picture of a “white supremist demonstration” that has nothing whatever to do with military personnel is worse than shoddy journalism; it is patently dishonest.

Bias exists in our world.  It always has and it always will.  It is not prevalent in our military services in the same way that it is not rampant in mainstream society.  So, we must now wonder, why is Military Times/Signal Media Group making such claims?  Ah, but we know already.

It’s the same trick they’re playing on the rest of our society.  Change history (by using a picture of a non-military demonstration to make the claim that present-day military personnel harbor white supremist inclinations), and it is possible to change the present (by turning military personnel against each other, or mainstream society against their front-line defenders).  Voila!  Mission accomplished!

I suspect that Military Times never conducted a valid poll of military personnel.  I make this suggestion based on this contention: the question was constructed by an idiot.  What is nationalism?  What is white nationalism?  How do they differ?  In what ways have the respondents observed racism?  How were respondents targeted?  By race or ethnicity?  By age?  By location in the country?  By military affiliation?  By rank?

A note to our friends, particularly those without a military background.  No military unit, Army, Air Force, Coast Guard, Navy, Marine Corps, or Space Force is able to perform its demanding duty when there is a pervasive environment of discord.  Conflict takes many forms … racial and ethnic division constitute only two of several possibilities.  Some troops from Tennessee can’t abide New Yorkers.  Some Baptists will never get along with Hindus.  Some women wearing our military uniform are man-haters.  There are still men who prey on women.

These examples serve to illustrate what our society offers the local military recruiter.  How we deal with it is in the time-honored way: we only promote men and women to noncommissioned officer ranks who have demonstrated the ability to lead.  We only offer commissions to men and women capable of developing into leaders who can lead NCOs.  We only promote to senior officer status those who have demonstrated the ability to lead junior officers.

Are there occasionally glitches in our imperfect system?  Of course.  Our military services are human inventions and there are times when our troops, our leaders let us down.  There are troops who break faith with their uniformed comrades.  There are NCOs and officers who fail to lead.  In each case of failure, there is a remedy, and the military services are really good about ferreting out troublemakers and leadership failures.

But there is no way that our military is a bastion of white supremacy or racism.  Any claim to the contrary is a damn lie.  We must reject those who would cause us to lose faith in our military establishment, who would sow the seeds of discontent within the military —and we ought to deny these destroyers access to sales through the military post exchanges and commissaries.  Such a decision is not up to me, or any of you.

It’s a bit complex

The company’s Military Times media group publishes newspapers aimed at current and former US military personnel.

  • Army Times, since 1940
  • Navy Times, since 1951
  • Air Force times, since 1947
  • Marine Corps Times, since 1999

I do not know how much money the company is making selling newspapers to military personnel and their families.  I also do not know its circulation.  What I do know is that the media group is owned by liberals, who invest in other media enterprises, and that they seem focused on changing (through nefarious means) American culture.  I do have a problem with this…

Sightline Media Group, formerly known as Gannett Government Media and Army Times Publishing Company, is a major media holding company.  The parent company of Sightline is Regent, L. P.  The company’s Military Times media group publishes newspapers aimed at current and former US military personnel.

New York Times – Lawns are Racist

Yes, you read that correctly. Lawns, as in your front or back yard. Apparently, it’s not enough that anyone who represents something other than their agenda is racist. Now, even inanimate objects can be classified as such.

We read a few days ago that the Times was moving on from Russia Russia Russia in blaming Trump to Racism. Apparently this was to set the stage.

New York Times

The Great American Lawn – The New York Times

According to Botti, the creation of lawns transformed the “pristine wilderness” to “identical rows of manicured nature,” as part of the “colonizing of America.” Furthermore, they were created “on the backs of slaves.”

To give evidence to this, he zooms in on a painting of George Washington who is standing in a field among other men who are cutting grass with scythes. Botti said, “It’s grueling, endless work,” as we can well imagine with such primitive tools.

He continues with the history lesson by saying, “By the 1870s, we also see American culture slowly start to embrace lawns for the privileged masses.” He goes on to explain how it was something for the rich and the powerful. Having a lawn meant you were doing well, a sign that you had ‘arrived,’ so to speak. Everyone wanted one, but few could afford the work that it took to create them.

Botti then cites historian Ted Steinberg by calling lawns the “outdoor expression of ‘50s conformism.” He then shows a vintage film of two women in their yards speaking about why they moved to their current neighborhood. Both say it was to be around other white people only.

However, this implies that their neighborhood and not their lawns are racist. In fact, the word lawn or anything remotely similar in meaning isn’t even mentioned.

To drive this point home even further, the Times refers to a 2005 NASA report that says there are more lawns in the US than there are irrigated cornfields. They also try to insinuate that more water resources are used to cultivate our yards than is used to ensure our nation has healthy crops.

The Times released a hard-hitting piece talking about how lawn care actually contributes to climate change, pollution and has a history rooted in, you guessed it, slavery.

Flashback: Bill Maher Racist Attack on Herman Cain –  Only Thing Stopping ‘The Rise of the Apes’

“At least he eats with a knife and a fork.” So says Maher. This for Saturday’s flashback.

Bill Maher slammed Trump for being a racist on his latest show this week.  Maher bemoaning – suffering so with Trump and his racism. But let us step back to 2011 when the GOP primary was warming up and what Maher had to say about Herman Cain who at the moment was leading. Where was the outrage? First the flashback then his recent remarks. Tell me who is the racist.

Bill Maher Racist Attack on Herman Cain –  Only Thing Stopping ‘The Rise of the Apes’ – Today’s Saturday’s flashback. Date: November  11/15/2011

MAHER: I’m rooting for him. You know? Because, look, in a country with only two parties, the Republican can always win. I mean, at least he eats with a knife and fork. I mean, he (Romney) is all that stands between us and the rise of the apes.

Is this not racism, racism, racism??

Here is what Bill had to say this week.

HBO’s “Real Time” with Bill Maher went after President Donald Trump’s racism on Friday with a bonus swipe at deplorables who many happen to enjoy Cracker Barrel.

“Good news, Trump left Washington, DC for the weekend,” Maher noted. “See, he can reduce crime in a black city!”

“Even for him, he had a racist-y month,” Maher explained.

“Of course, he told four congresswomen to go back to the country they came from,” he continued. “And Melania said, ‘How come I never get that option?”

The host was shocked Trump claimed to be the “least racist” person in the world.

“He’s not even the least racist person at the Cracker Barrel,” Maher declared.

In the first two minutes he reiterates the above statements:

A reminder of the abuse that was absorbed by us during the Obama years. By us and our candidates. Yet we got through eight years of being relatively civil compared to what is going on now.

Yes, you read that right. Bill Maher, after the mention of Herman Cain’s lead over Romney, says Romney is the only thing standing between us and the rise of the apes.  This comment was made during an interview given by George Stephanopoulos on ABC’s Good Morning America, Monday morning.

Date: November  11/15/2011 orignal post date with my comment:

If this doesn’t make the headlines tomorrow, and if this isn’t one of the top stories on the MSM news programs, we will all know for certainty the double-standard hypocrisy of the Leftists.

Let’s not forget about this Bill Kristol fellow – accuses Fox News and Carlson

For whatever reason, Bill Kristol has been rehabilitated by the lefties and now is making appearances on MSNBC and CNN. Sadly, even Fox has succumbed to him. Let us not forget: Earlier post:

Kristol criticizes Fox News host Tucker Carlson, saying what he does on TV is “close now to racism,

Bill Kristol takes on Fox News, Tucker Carlson –

I always have enjoyed the last twenty or so minutes of Bret Bair’s Fox News Hour segment of commentary. Bill has wormed his way into that segment as well at times. Imagine when I caught Tucker Carlson lamenting last night that Kristol called him a racist. Just so we don’t forget about this Kristol fellow. We will be seeing more of him no doubt.

Bill Kristol casually describes how the white working class has become lazy and the only solution for unemployment, poor conditions, poor benefits, etc. is to bring in immigrants.

Colin Kaepernick, raised by White couple, paid $20 Mil by White NFL Owner

Looks like Colin didn’t grow up in the hood. Another angry inter-racial man, raised by White people. Reminds me of what we just had in the White House.

Something for a Friday. Sometimes a picture is worth a lot of words.

Rick and Teresa Kaepernick, who are white, adopted Colin when he was only 5 weeks old. The couple had lost two sons at birth to congenital heart failure and were not eligible to adopt a white baby from a private adoption agency. Then came along a tiny biracial baby boy who had recently been given away by his 19-year-old white mother. Teresa called Colin her “perfect child.” More at

Supremes ruling – turning nice neighborhoods into ghettos

While we were so involved with the Gay Marriage and Obamacare Supreme court rulings, this little number came our way at the same time. Guess who is moving into our neighborhood?

In a 5-4 ruling, the court said certain housing policies that put minorities at a disadvantage, even if they aren’t expressly intended to discriminate, can be challenged in court.

The court sided with a community organization alleging that Texas’ housing department had improperly clustered Section 8 housing in low-income, high-crime areas — essentially preserving the segregation that federal housing law was designed to end.

Texas had argued that the lawsuit was invalid, and the question before the high court was whether the Fair Housing Act — a law intended to outlaw racial discrimination in housing — allows people to sue over practices that might not be explicitly discriminatory, but end up hurting minorities disproportionately.

You have worked hard so as to be able to live in a nice neighborhood where you can raise your kids in safety, and you don’t want some Section 8 crack house opening up across the street? Then you’re a racist. H/TMoonbattery

Every neighborhood should be like Baltimore

‘Disparate Impact’ Ruling Emboldens Obama’s Diversity Cops

Racial Preferences: Armed with a Supreme Court-licensed shakedown weapon, President Obama’s race cops will wage an even bigger war against lenders, insurers, employers and whoever else fails their “disparate impact” test.

Attorney Gen. Loretta Lynch said she and her civil-rights goons are “bolstered by this important ruling” by the high bench, which by a narrow 5-4 vote upheld bogus disparate-impact theory as a tool to enforce laws against housing, lending and insurance discrimination.

Meanwhile, HUD chief Julian Castro said the ruling gives his regulators a “greater level of certainty” to go after lenders and landlords. “We’re going to keep using it,” he warned, including against local zoning officials who have the audacity to restrict high-density housing to protect against blight, congestion and depreciation.

And Consumer Financial Protection Bureau Chief Richard Cordray says any financial policy, practice or standard that has a “disparate impact on communities of color” is fair game. “That doctrine is applicable for all of the credit markets we touch, including mortgages, student loans, credit cards and auto loans.”

Obama, morever, suggested that the EEOC and the Labor Department will use disparate impact as a tool to prevent employers from using criminal background checks and “calling Johnny back for a job interview but not Jamal.”
