French TV bans video of Down Syndrome Kids so not to offend Pro-Abortion women

Many are celebrating the passing of Castro. How ironic that Democracies are giving their freedoms away so easily. Picked this up from Weasel Zippers

An award-winning video featuring happy children with Down syndrome has been banned from French TV by France’s Conseil d’État (State Council) because it may offend post-abortive women.

The video in question, “Dear Future Mom,” touchingly featured children with Down syndrome of various ages bonding with their respective parents, educating mothers that such children can live a happy life and that they need not be worried.

Apparently, that message packed a little too much “microaggression” for France’s State Council, which determined the video would “trouble the conscience of women who had made different personal life choices in compliance with the law.”

Reject USDA School lunch program? Punishment follows

You know the drill by now. Schools are abandoning the Michelle Obama’s school lunch programs due to the uneatability and loss of revenue. If you thought just giving back the subsidies would be the end of the story, think again. No, the jackboots come. The USDA promises a “Cascade of Regulations.”  It is the Chicago way.

In the words of board vice chairman John Laferriere:

“Essentially, we want to get off the federal teat. At the end of the day, that’s what it is. And we’re getting penalized for it.”

What did they think Michelle Obama et al. were going to do, give them a gold star for resisting?

Today’s lesson at Londonderry High: The purpose of Big Government is to become Bigger Government. Those who succumb are absorbed. Those who resist are squashed. H/T:Moonbattery

School officials last year decided to remove Londonderry High School from the National School Lunch Program after nutrition regulations championed by first lady Michelle Obama resulted in a significant drop in cafeteria sales, and a significant increase in food waste, the New Hampshire Union Leader reports.

The move meant the high school forfeited federal subsidies that come with the program, but officials increased lunch prices and introduced new offerings students love to make up the difference, and then some.

The high school’s successful transition, however, apparently doesn’t sit well with federal bureaucrats at the U.S. Department of Education, who apparently issued a threat to district officials recently in hopes of changing their minds.

The USDA’s national office told school officials they must provide an “accountability and reconciliation plan” to document production and waste in the high school’s kitchen and comply with “more than monthly” inspections to continue its arrangement“ Dining services director Amanda Venezia said Monday she was told in a conference call last week that the U.S. Department of Agriculture may not treat the school as a processing facility,” the Union Leader reports. “The categorization would impose substantial regulatory and financial burdens, she said, require at least one new hire and lots of paperwork.”

Obama spying on consumers, leaving massive security breaches

After watching the love fest with Hillary last night, reading the headlines of how wonderful the debate was, I could find nothing of note to post on the topic. But this little number, the gathering of our financial data, is not worth a mention by the MSM? A question about this could not be asked of the candidates? Where is the GOP? There is no one willing to take this on in our congress? No doubt this info will end up in the Utah spy center. The GOP should have a cake walk to the Presidency. Why do I think they will be willing to shoot themselves in the foot? Here we go:

Privacy: The most powerful unaccountable agency in Washington is mining and amassing all your personal financial data. While that’s bad enough, it also isn’t adequately protecting them from hackers and identity thieves.

A just-released inspector general report found that the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, is conducting a massive consumer data-mining operation without the security safeguards to protect the sensitive data from cyberattacks.

The CFPB is collecting and stockpiling more than 600 million credit card accounts, along with personal data from millions of mortgage loans, but “has not yet fully implemented a number of privacy control steps and information security practices,” warned CFPB Inspector General Mark Bialek in a 10-page memo to CFPB Director Richard Cordray.

More alarming, the agency is sharing the massive databases with outside contractors and storing sensitive private information on unsecured clouds, making the data extra vulnerable to cyberattacks “from outside governments and organized groups.” More at IBD

Office Depot refuses to make copies of pro life prayer

McCarthyism at is best. Now Office Depot is going to inspect the copies that it makes and decide whether one has the right to freedom of speech? I guess we knew this was coming didn’t we. Did I ever think that this would happen in America? No.

Office Depot has refused to print copies of a pro-life prayer on the grounds that to do so violates company policy of printing material that “advocates the persecution of people who support abortion rights.”

Maria Goldstein, 42, ordered 500 copies of “A Prayer for the Conversion of Planned Parenthood” at Office Depot in Schaumburg, Illinois, for distribution at her Roman Catholic parish’s Masses Sunday. The prayer was composed by national director of Priests for Life Father Frank Pavone, a Breitbart News contributor.

In a press release sent to Breitbart News, Pavone responded to Office Depot’s refusal to print copies of his prayer by saying that it was time for pro-life advocates to fight back against an effort to restrict their freedom.

“Let me be clear: Priests for Life, and I personally, have a long record of promoting respect and dialogue with those who advocate abortion,” he said. “Just ask the Father of the Pro-Choice Movement, Bill Baird, with whom I have held joint press conferences over the years calling for respect in both word and deed across the lines of the abortion debate.”

Seattle getting rid of single-family zoning. Utopia soon to follow

If everyone can’t have a single home, then no one will have one. A Utopian dream or an American nightmare? But we knew this was coming didn’t we? Take that we racist, bigoted gun loving knuckle draggers. The first step was the earlier Supremes ruling – turning nice neighborhoods into ghettos. As well as Obama’s latest Rule: Control of Zoning laws, and a ‘Refugee’ in your neighborhood

A crack house in every neighborhood thanks to section 8 housing mandatory on your street. But the government is not done with you. Here we go:

Get rid of single-family zoning in Seattle. That’s the big message in a draft report being worked on by Mayor Ed Murray’s housing committee, obtained by The Seattle Times.

“We can still be a city for everyone, but only if we give up our outdated ideal of every family living in their own home on a 5,000 square foot lot,” a draft letter from the committee co-chairs reads.

According to a draft letter, the city needs to move away from the idea that all families can live in their own home on a piece of land, the Times reports.

The issue is framed in Marxist leftist terms:

The draft letter says that single-family zoning has “roots in racial and class exclusion.[”] The zoning remains “among the largest obstacles to realizing the city’s goals for equity and affordability,” the Times reports.

“More 6-story buildings where there were 4 stories before, more 7-story buildings where there were 6-stories before, and more multifamily housing of all types in areas currently zoned for less density inside (neighborhoods designated as) Urban Villages,” the letter says.

Here is the draft policy ideas from Mayor Ed Murray’s advisory committee. And of course, we all be using public transportation. So much easier to control us. Here is Seattle’s new look. Coming our way.

Clinton unable to name one achievement during her tenure

Wouldn’t you think by now Clinton could come up with some sort of achievement for an answer? There are a number of clips out there as she moves about peddling her book. Let’s focus on this one. If I thought I was sick of looking at Obama, Hillary and her faux smile is getting close to first place these days. I would say she avoided the answer. Maybe the interviews are not quite as friendly this time around?

Civil forfeiture laws – Guilty until proven innocent, a bonanza for public funding

We read about some of the abuses of Eminent Domain because the cases may affect Mom and Pop types. We hear less about asset forfeiture. The general opinion is the victims are drug kingpins, and we are often willing to look the other way. Since the IRS revelation and the realization what an out of control government can do, I suggest we pay more attention to this practice. This study which looked at Rhode Island found that most of the cases were not drug related.

From the Institute for Justice:

The smallest state in the Union can rake in big money from asset forfeiture. Since 2003, law enforcement in Rhode Island has hauled in $15.7 million using the state’s asset forfeiture laws.

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) – Police departments across Rhode Island have seized millions of dollars in cash, cars and other assets in recent years using a common law enforcement practice that doesn’t require a conviction for the individuals involved in the case.

All told, law enforcement officials throughout the state hauled in nearly $15.7 million from 3,786 incidents since 2003 using the state’s asset forfeiture law, according to a Target 12 review of data obtained through multiple public records requests.

Paul King, chief of police in neighboring Pawtucket, said his department used forfeiture money to purchase six brand new marked police units “that we just didn’t have in our budget to buy, and our fleet needed it.”

“These assets have been a godsend to the department,” King told Target 12.

But most of the cases were not targeting drug kingpins. Between 2003 and 2013, the average value of forfeited property was $4,142. Almost 40 percent of these cases affected property valued at less than $1,000. Only 12 out of almost 3,800 incidents involved property worth more than $100,000.

But for individuals who have had charges dropped or dismissed, getting money or property back isn’t easy. One has to go back to court and start a civil suit.

Last year, 22 police departments seized more than $1.3 million from 306 incidents. But fewer than half of these actually led to a conviction. In fact, under civil forfeiture, the government can take property from people never convicted of a crime, or even charged with one. Only a handful of states (including, most recently, Minnesota) actually require a criminal conviction to forfeit property.
