Obama says ‘Come on in’ expands refugee program for Central Americans

After the Supremes blocked his plan regarding illegals recently, it’s full-bore ahead with this President. By simply giving so-called “Refugee Status” to anyone who crosses our border, they become eligible for getting a Green card and benefits. No questions asked. Clever aren’t they? No doubt plenty of gang bangers, drug dealers will flood our shores. Even though Americans have been clear about the concerns of importing who knows who, this administration gives us the you know what. Here we go:

President Barack Obama announced an expansion of a refugee program for Central Americans fleeing violence in their home countries, the day after the Democratic National Convention featured an undocumented immigrant among its opening-night speakers.

Some adults will be eligible to accompany minors under age 21 seeking refugee status from El Salvador, Guatemala and Honduras as the administration tries to discourage people from using smugglers to enter the U.S. illegally.

“The goal is for individuals who have legitimate humanitarian claims to not take the dangerous journey and to accept our outstretched arm of relief,” Alejandro Mayorkas, deputy secretary of homeland security, told reporters Tuesday on a conference call. He said he doesn’t know how many people may come into the U.S. under this expansion

Obama is expanding the program even though a federal court blocked his plan to shield millions of immigrants from deportation.

Administration officials say that expanding the refugee program for Central Americans will make it easier for some of those people to enter the U.S. legally. The expansion announced Tuesday would allow some older siblings, parents and other related caregivers to be eligible for refugee status when applying to enter the U.S. with minors.

Obama considers flying ‘refugees’ straight from Honduras to avoid rough trip

That is right, I took this straight from Weasel Zippers because, well I am speechless this morning and I just can’t get past this one and how could I find anything more jarring. No joke indeed. Let me add that McCain manages to make the print in the story with his acute acumen by  the quote “Under Senator McCain’s proposal, refugee applicants would be processed at home, and child migrants arriving in the United States illegally could be deported quickly”. Sure, you betcha. Yes, and let’s let the U.N. decide where and from whence they come.

“It’s a way to help folks avoid life-threatening escapes and journeys,” Ms. Blake said. “It’s a good idea. It’s a tested idea.”No Joke: Obama Considering Flying Immigrants From Honduras Straight To The U.S. So They Don’t Have To Sneak Over Border…

Via NY Times:

Stacie Blake, the director of government relations for the U.S. Committee for Refugees and Immigrants, an advocacy group, said the processing of potential refugees in Central America could be handled by the United States or by the United Nations, which makes refugee determinations in many other countries.

Hoping to stem the recent surge of migrants at the Southwest border, the Obama administration is considering whether to allow hundreds of minors and young adults from Honduras into the United States without making the dangerous trek through Mexico, according to a draft of the proposal.

If approved, the plan would direct the government to screen thousands of children and youths in Honduras to see if they can enter the United States as refugees or on emergency humanitarian grounds. It would be the first American refugee effort in a nation reachable by land to the United States, the White House said, putting the violence in Honduras on the level of humanitarian emergencies in Haiti and Vietnam, where such programs have been conducted in the past amid war and major crises.

Critics of the plan were quick to pounce, saying it appeared to redefine the legal definition of a refugee and would only increase the flow of migration to the United States. Administration officials said they believed the plan could be enacted through executive action, without congressional approval, as long as it did not increase the total number of refugees coming into the country.

By moving decisions on refugee claims to Honduras, the plan aims to slow the rush of minors crossing into the United States illegally from El Salvador, Honduras and Guatemala, which has overwhelmed the border this year. More than 45,000 unaccompanied minors from those three nations have arrived since Oct. 1, straining federal resources to the point that some agencies will exhaust their budgets by next month, the secretary of Homeland Security has said.

Honduras not so happy to have Zelaya

Wow!  Zelaya got a whole eighty-five supporters to come to the Brazilian embassy, huh?  Impressive!  That’s about the size of the average college-football team, although it appears that most of those do a better job of rushing and tackling. I am sure this must be a dissapointment to our leader. Is it possible? The MSM has it wrong? Could democracy prevail?

The return of Manuel Zelaya to Honduras has not gone according to the leftists’ plans, according to a report by the AP this morning. Instead of attracting throngs of supporters to carry him back to power, the deposed president has instead seen his small amount of supporters drift away from the Brazilian embassy, where Zelaya has been hiding since his surreptitious return to Tegulcigapa. Even the Brazilians now seem less than enthusiastic about his presence: Diplomats and activists streamed out of the increasingly isolated Brazilian Embassy in Honduras where ousted President Manuel Zelaya holed up with a shrinking core of supporters and relatives, prompting Brazil to urge the U.N. Security Council to guarantee the compound’s safety. Zelaya’s backers ventured out at several points in Honduras’ capital to skirmish with police, after hundreds of their colleagues were routed by baton-wielding soldiers from the street in front of the embassy and police roadblocks sealed off the mission building Tuesday. Authorities denied local media reports that three people died in the confrontation. … The government briefly set up loudspeakers near the embassy and shut off water and power to the building, apparently to harass Zelaya’s supporters inside. At least 85 Zelaya supporters and part of the embassy’s staff later left the building; none were detained. Services were later restored to the building. Wow!
