Biden Snubs Erdogan, Refuses To Answer Phone Call In Rare NATO Cold Shoulder

Sounds like this should make Liz Cheney very happy since there never was a war she didn’t like. I am no specialist in the Middle East and others can opine on the matter. But common sense tells me picking up the phone by the incoming US President sounds like a great idea to me to avoid tensions that may lead to a war,

The bigger question is whether Biden is up to handling a phone call from someone that requires some finesse at the least. Great to get congratulatory phone calls. Something else when it requires some amount of acumen. My guess the latter for his rudeness.

VP Joe Biden with Erdogan in Ankara in better days

Easy to forget Trump did not start one war. Here we go:

A week out from Joe Biden entering the White House, few countries are on edge more than Turkey. Despite US-Turkey relations generally deteriorating over the past years, especially over the Russian S-400 issue and blocked F-35 sales, it was widely perceived that Erdogan and Trump had a ‘special relationship’ which never allowed things to get to breaking point. This is likely why the administration never pulled the trigger on significant sanctions targeting Turkey over the S-400 issue.

Biden, however, has vowed to ‘stand up’ to Erdogan, and already it appears the Turkish president is being left out in the cold, as he’s being reportedly snubbed by the Biden camp. “With just seven days until Joe Biden assumes office, the US president-elect is yet to respond to Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s offer of a phone call, an unusual snub for a powerful Nato ally,” Middle East Eye reports Thursday.

McGurk has been both a major supporter of the Kurds while at the same time dubbing Turkish-backed Sunni militants in Idlib as al-Qaeda terrorists.

As Axios notes of McGurk, he’ll “be responsible for coordinating U.S. policies not only in Syria, but also in Iran, Iraq and Libya — all of which are of importance to Turkey.”

75 million Americans need re-education and deprograming

Let’s start with a bonus:

The final House vote on an article of impeachment for incitement of insurrection was 232-197.

Every Democrat voted to impeach and 10 Republicans joined in voting yes: Liz Cheney (Wyo.), Anthony Gonzalez (Ohio), Jamie Herrera-Beutler (Wash.), John Katko (N.Y.), Adam Kinzinger (Ill.), Peter Meijer (Mich.), Dan Newhouse (Wash.), Tom Rice (S.C.), Fred Upton (Mich.), and David Valadao (Calif.). Four Republicans did not vote either way.

War and more war coming with Biden’s Sec. of State Blinken

Lots of wars coming up. Obama’s Iran deal will no doubt be back in place. Load up the planes with lots more cash. Liz Cheney must be jumping for joy

The Neocons should be very happy with the pick of Anthony Blinken for Secretary of State. All those military contracts coming up. Congress must be salivating. Blinken a so called “Interventionist .”

Here we go:

Blinken and Kerry

Blinken was Biden’s top aide in 2002 when Biden was leading the charge in the Senate to give George W. Bush his invasion of Iraq. In 2006, Biden penned an Op-ed for The New York Times that called for dividing Iraq into three separate autonomous zones with a central government in Baghdad, later referred to as a “soft partition.” According to the Times, Blinken helped craft Biden’s proposal.

Seen as a loyal Biden aide, Blinken surprised some in the White House when he broke with Biden and supported military intervention in Libya in 2011, according to The Washington Post. Blinken also called for US action in Syria after Barack Obama was reelected in 2012. Sources told the Post in 2013 that Blinken “was less enthusiastic than Biden” about Obama seeking Congressional approval for a military strike on Syria.

In 2019, Blinken co-authored an Op-ed in The Washington Post with neoconservative Robert Kagan.

The piece argued against President Trump’s “America First” foreign policy and said the US did “too little” in Syria. “Without bringing appropriate power to bear [in Syria], no peace could be negotiated, much less imposed,” the article reads.

In 2015, Blinken facilitated an increase in weapons sales and intelligence sharing for the Saudi-led coalition after it intervened in Yemen to fight the Houthis. “We have expedited weapons deliveries, we have increased our intelligence sharing, and we have established a joint coordination planning cell in the Saudi operation center,” Blinken said in April 2015.

One area where a Biden administration could be less hawkish than a Trump administration is Iran. Blinken has been critical of President Trump’s decision to withdraw from the 2015 Iran nuclear deal, known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA). Speaking at an event earlier this year, Blinken said Biden would return to the JCPOA. “[Biden] would seek to build on the nuclear deal to make it longer and stronger if Iran returns to strict compliance,” he said.  Read more

ISW has increasingly drawn support from military contractors with stakes in the issues that the institute studies. “According to ISW’s last annual report,” noted Consortium News in December 2012, “its original supporters were mostly right-wing foundations, such as the Smith-Richardson Foundation and the Lynde and Harry Bradley Foundation, but it now is backed by national security contractors, including major ones like Raytheon, General Dynamics, Northrop Grumman and CACI, as well as lesser-known firms such as DynCorp International, which provides training for Afghan police, and Palantir, a technology company founded with the backing of the CIA’s venture-capital arm, In-Q-Tel. USA Wars: News from the front

Here we go with the news that is making our military-industrial complex squeal like a stuck pig. Bringing the boys home… heresy to those who have a need for a war somewhere. Always. The best part is now they have no shame. They use to hide their nefarious actions but no more. James Jeffrey is more than happy to claim the title of a treasonous scoundrel. Here we go:

James Jeffrey—who is retiring from his posts as the Special Representative for Syria Engagement and Special Envoy to the Global Coalition to Defeat ISIS — reportedly said that “shell games” have been used to avoid telling U.S. leaders the true number of American troops in Syria.

“We were always playing shell games to not make clear to our leadership how many troops we had there,” Jeffrey said, according to Defense One.

Jeffrey reportedly said that when President Donald Trump was interested in withdrawing from Syria, arguments against a withdrawal were presented to the commander in chief.

……

“What Syria withdrawal? There was never a Syria withdrawal,” Jeffrey told the outlet. “When the situation in northeast Syria had been fairly stable after we defeated ISIS, [Trump] was inclined to pull out. In each case, we then decided to come up with five better arguments for why we needed to stay. And we succeeded both times. That’s the story.” From Just the news

Wandering over the Afghanistan:

Speaking on the Senate floor, McConnell warned against a potentially “humiliating” withdrawal that threatens to undo Trump’s “tremendous” work in the region. The GOP leader said a “premature exit” would be reminiscent of the U.S. departure from Saigon in 1975. Leaving Afghanistan now “would be broadcast around the world as a symbol of U.S. defeat and humiliation and a victory for Islamic extremism,” McConnell said.

The bipartisan commitment to using Russia for endless war and imperialism remains vibrant.

THE U.S. MILITARY HAS BEEN fighting in Afghanistan for almost nineteen years. House Democrats, working in tandem with key pro-war GOP lawmakers such as Rep. Liz Cheney, are ensuring that continues.

Last night, the House Armed Services Committee voted overwhelmingly in favor of an amendment — jointly sponsored by Democratic Congressman Jason Crow of Colorado and Congresswoman Cheney of Wyoming — prohibiting the expenditure of monies to reduce the number of U.S. troops deployed in Afghanistan below 8,000 without a series of conditions first being met.

The imposed conditions are by no means trivial: for these troop reductions from Afghanistan to be allowed, the Defense Department must be able to certify, among other things, that leaving Afghanistan “will not increase the risk for the expansion of existing or formation of new terrorist safe havens inside Afghanistan” and “will not compromise or otherwise negatively affect the ongoing United States counter terrorism mission against the Islamic State, al Qaeda, and associated forces.”

Just what is the  Institute for the Study of War? Unfortunately,  much of their original information disappeared yesterday from their website. Thanking various military contractors for hosting dinners, and of course Liz Cheney’s name and picture are no longer prominently displayed.

The Syrian policy makers, and the ‘Doing stupid stuff’ done in spades

By now most everyone has heard about the food fight going on between Hillary Clinton and Obama’s Syrian policy or lack thereof otherwise known as “doing stupid stuff”.  Hillary Clinton Slams Obama’s “Don’t Do Stupid Stuff” Foreign-Policy Mantra… shar.es/1noPFG  Something like that.Let’s take a look as Clinton’s keen insight morphs from Assad being a good guy to well, you know, she wishes to dispense with him as she took care of business in Libya and Egypt. But let me throw in a few more characters in this bizarre play that must have the world in absolute astonishment. Don’t miss the first Hillary clip!

Nancy Pelosi

In 2007, Nancy Pelosi, over strong objections from the  State Department, visited Syria, and said, “The road to Damascus is a road to  peace.” Senator John Kerry predicted that “Syria will change as it embraces a  legitimate relationship with the United States.” Read more:  Newsbusters

John Kerry

It wasn’t so long ago that Kerry made repeated pilgrimage to Syria, meeting with Assad five times between 2009 and 2011.

He famously used the adjective “generous” to describe Assad, as the Wall Street Journal’s Bret Stephens recalled in a column:

On March 16, 2011—the day after the first mass demonstration against the regime—John Kerry said Assad was a man of his word who had been “very generous with me.” He added that under Assad “Syria will move; Syria will change as it embraces a legitimate relationship with the United States.” This is the man who might be our next secretary of state.

As Michael Rubin recently wrote in Commentary Magazine, Kerry’s staffers described “their collective cringe when, after a motorcycle ride with Bashar al-Assad, he returned to Washington referring to Bashar as ‘my dear friend.’”

The National Review detailed more about Kerry’s positive impression of Assad:

After a “long and comprehensive” meeting with Assad in April of that year, Kerry described it as “a very positive discussion.” A month later, Kerry was back in Syria. His spokesman, insisting that “Syria can play a critical role in bringing peace and stability if it makes the strategic decision to do so,” asserted that Kerry had “emerged as one of the primary American interlocutors with the Syrian government.” Despite the senator’s interlocutions, Assad, it appears, has made the wrong “strategic decision.”

The Washington Free Beacon in an article titled “An Affair to Remember: John Kerry Hearts Bashar al-Assad” called Kerry the Syrian dictator’s “highest-ranking apologist in American politics”:

Hillary Clinton and her various changing views on Assad.

At this point, Madame Secretary believes that Bashar al- Assad is the good guy. That was in 2011.

Reporters aren’t interested in exploring aspects of Clinton’s job as Secretary  of State. One such comment not getting attention is her 2011 labeling of Bashar  al-Assad, the man almost  certainly (maybe) behind a devastating chemical weapons attack, as a “reformer.”

On the March 27, 2011, Clinton insisted, “There’s a different leader in  Syria now. Many of the members of Congress of both parties who have gone to  Syria in recent months have said they believe he’s a reformer.” (The Washington  Post gave this remark three Pinocchios. Clinton later backtracked.)  Yet, ABC, NBC and CBS have not reexamined the comments in the wake of the attack  or its accuracy.

Uploaded on Mar 31, 2011. Included in the clip is her take on the wonders of the administration’s actions in Libya as well.

Here are the notes from the clip below, her view takes quite a turn!

Published on Jan 1, 2013 – A SURPRISE at the ending of the clip.

Hillary Clinton, US Secretary of State, has been calling over and over since 2011 for the legitimate president of Syria, Bashar al-Assad, to leave power and to let a bunch of al-Qaeda supporters known as the Syrian National Council (later Syrian National Coalition) replace him. However, the repeated defeats in battles of her “Free Syrian Army” (FSA) and their al-Qaeda Jihadi assistants have caused her much frustration culminating in a blood clot behind her ear. She will be replaced this month by John Kerry.

Leon Panetta

Back in August of 2012, former U.S. Secretary of Defense Leon Panetta says that when Bashar al-Assad loses his grip on power, he wants the Syrian military to remain in place. I am sure Kerry no doubt has an even happier ending.

Delusional Panetta wants Syrian Military to stay, S. Power confused

Many of us have been looking for what the ending would be in Syria after we dispatched another head of a Middle East country. I happened on a Panetta video whose is equally clueless regarding the administration’s best wishes for a happy ending.

John Brennan (who now leads the CIA) has previously defended jihad as a “legitimate tenet of Islam.”

On June 29, 2011, John Brennan, who was then a senior adviser to the president and is currently the CIA director, explained the Obama administration’s counterterrorism strategy.

“Our strategy is…shaped by a deeper understanding of al Qaeda’s goals, strategy, and tactics,” Brennan claimed. “I’m not talking about al Qaeda’s grandiose vision of global domination through a violent Islamic caliphate. That vision is absurd, and we are not going to organize our counterterrorism policies against a feckless delusion that is never going to happen. We are not going to elevate these thugs and their murderous aspirations into something larger than they are.”

CIA sending guns to Syrian rebels via Muslim Brotherhood

Yesterday, the Turkish media reported, “Turkey … agreed with the US on a deal involving the transfer of US-engineered unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) that could prove crucial in combating terrorism.” The Predator drones, expected to be delivered in June 2012, are supposed to help the Turks combat terrorists, which in Ankara’s narrow definition means the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) crossing into Turkey from the Iraq border.Weekly Standard

This is Moustafa.

And look,

John McCain there in the middle, and a couple of Islamist kidnappers behind him.

setf-mouaz-mccain

Moustafa and O’Bagy arranged McCain’s trip to Syria through the Syrian Emergency Task Force.

You probably have guessed where this is going by now. Mr. Moustafa is a Palestinian Arab, and was involved in the Libya war before he turned up in Syria. He openly hates Israel. He opposed the overthrow of Mohammed Morsi in Egypt.

Syrian Emergency Task Force dumps disposable O’Bagy

The Syrian Emergency Task Force, a group of Syrians lobbying for American intervention, needed a American front woman with outside credentials. After the Institute for the Study of War dumped Elizabeth O’Bagy and her credibility was shot, the SETF didn’t need her anymore.

It was never about Ms O’Bagy’s credentials or lack thereof. It was about we as Americans being played. Played by McCain – or perhaps his senility got in the way of his judgement, the Obama regime who paid the freight for her “unbiased scientific work”, and most importantly many of the neocons who had to or should have known better than to mix with the Institute for the Study of War which includes funding by the Government as well as military contractors. Who are the Board Directors?

Directors included: Elizabeth Cheney, daughter of Vice President Dick Cheney and founder of the right-wing advocacy group Keep America Safe; William Kristol, editor of the neoconservative flagship magazine the Weekly Standard; Jack Keane, a retired four-star general who coauthored with Frederick Kagan of the American Enterprise Institute “Choosing Victory,” a 2007 study that served as a blueprint for the so-called “surge” in Iraq; Dennis Showalter, a military historian; Hal Hirsch; Bill Roberti; and Kim Kagan.

And who supports this organization”

“According to ISW’s last annual report,” noted Consortium News in December 2012, now is backed by national security contractors, including major ones like Raytheon, General Dynamics, Northrop Grumman and CACI, as well as lesser-known firms such as DynCorp International, which provides training for Afghan police, and Palantir, a technology company founded with the backing of the CIA’s venture-capital arm, In-Q-Tel. Palantir supplies software to U.S. military intelligence in Afghanistan.”[18]

For the full rant, check out my earlier post: Liz Cheney, Elizabeth O’Bagy, Military contractors- a toxic brew

Now, back to the news of the dumping of Ms O’Bagy:

“The Syrian Emergency Task Force announced officially today that Elizabeth O’Bagy is no longer working with the organization,” the group’s executive director Mouaz Moustafa said Monday. “Although the SETF deeply regrets the poor judgment exercised by Ms. O’Bagy in misstating her credentials, we stand by her research on the realities on the ground in Syria. The mission of the Syrian Emergency Task Force is to educate the American public and policy makers on the Syrian crisis and to provide humanitarian assistance to Syrians in need.”

Mouaz Moustafa is a good deal worse than Elizabeth O’Bagy as documented earlier.

Senator McCain called Moustafa a “patriot”, but it’s not clear which country he’s a patriot of, since it’s not Mouaz Moustafa’s first time around on the regime change bus tour.

Before the Syrian Emergency Task Force, Moustafa was the Executive Director of the Libyan Council of North America, which like the SETF existed to help push regime change. Before that, he mentions working with “rebels” in Egypt. His Twitter account frequently features anti-Israel material, including calls for a Palestinian state with its capital in Jerusalem. On his YouTube account, he “liked” a video featuring Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh, “crying while praying”.

O’Bagy is disposable and proved to be disposable. It’s the SETF that matters.

Who are Holder’s Seven Attorney’s? Fess Up!

Liz wants to know– we want to know, why are Al Quada Attorney’s now in the Justice Department.

This morning’s attack on Justice Department lawyers by Liz Cheney’s group Keep America Safe is provoking a bit of a backlash, including from a senior prosecutor who faced off with some of them over detainees.

“This is the typically regressive fear tactic that you expect from anybody named Cheney,” said Morris Davis, the former chief prosecutor at the Bush era military commissions, who has been a critic of the commission system. The group, Keep America Safe, and Congressional Republicans have targeted two well-known Justice Department appointees who worked on detainee cases in the Bush years and seven more unnamed lawyers.

Liz Cheny’s ad:

ISIS in Iraq Occupy Hussein’s Chemical Weapons Facility – anyone concerned?

This story has been puzzling me for about a week. Alas, apparently I am one of a handful that has given any thought to this. We all know the drill. No “Weapons of Mass Destruction” were found which caused Bush , Cheney, et al to bear the burden of “The Bad War.” Iraq. We do know that Sadam blasted the Kurds with WMD’s with the estimated deaths of over 50,000. So then Iraq did have a Chemical factory? So page forward. No weapons were found, but oh shucks, we have a few bunkers with “unstable” chemical weapons that we are assured are just too dangerous to handle. So not to worry. All is well in the parallel universe. Earth to fellow humans: Am I the only one questioning this whole story line? Must be that darn tin foil.

Washington (WSJ)WSJ— Sunni extremists in Iraq have occupied what was once Saddam Hussein’s premier chemical-weapons production facility, a complex that still contains a stockpile of old weapons, State Department and other U.S. government officials said.

U.S. officials don’t believe the Sunni militants will be able to create a functional chemical weapon from the material. The weapons stockpiled at the Al Muthanna complex are old, contaminated and hard to move, officials said.

Nonetheless, the capture of the chemical-weapon stockpile by the forces of the Islamic State of Iraq and al-Sham, known as ISIS or ISIL, the militant group that is seizing territory in the country, has grabbed the attention of the U.S.

“We remain concerned about the seizure of any military site by the ISIL,” Jen Psaki, the State Department spokeswoman, said in a written statement. “We do not believe that the complex contains CW materials of military value and it would be very difficult, if not impossible to safely move the materials.”

The takeover underscores the chaos gripping Iraq and the prospect that the growing Sunni rebellion could further destabilize the Middle East. Not lost on U.S. government and military officials is the irony that the latest chapter in a war designed to strip Iraq of chemical weapons could see radical Sunni extremists take control of that same stockpile.

Military officials said the U.S. was well aware of the Muthanna stockpile and wouldn’t have left it there if it posed a military threat. Still, when the U.S. pulled out of Iraq, it didn’t anticipate a large swath of the country, including numerous military bases, would be overrun by radical Sunni militants. One defense official said that if the U.S. had known the Iraqi government would lose control so soon, it might not have left the old chemical weapons in place.

The rise of ISIS has reignited the debate about the 2003 invasion of Iraq by the Bush administration and the 2011 decision by the Obama administration to withdraw remaining military forces from the country. The takeover of a chemical weapons stockpile-even if the weapons are useless-seems likely to further intensify those debates.

Nonetheless, the capture of the chemical-weapon stockpile by the forces of the Islamic State of Iraq and al-Sham, known as ISIS or ISIL, the militant group that is seizing territory in the country, has grabbed the attention of the U.S. ED( Sorry, not a whole lot)

I’m sure that people who regularly blow themselves up and have their own divine deaths drilled into their heads since birth are worried about moving some dangerous chemicals to a point where they can be deadly and take out some infidels along with some Shi’ites.

Here is a bit of history, believe what you think reasonable.
