Whitmer threatens profit seizure if pipeline stays operating

Just after hearing for the first time yesterday from our new energy maven, we get the news that Michigan’s Governor Whitmer has even a more diabolical move afoot. The very time we are in an “energy crunch” not a “shortage,” this nitwit does this. Sheer madness. First let me introduce you to Energy Secretary Jennifer Granholm.

LANSING, Mich. (AP) — Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer threatened Tuesday to go after Enbridge’s profits from a Great Lakes oil pipeline if the company defies her order to shut it down.

The Democratic governor issued the warning in a letter to the Canadian energy transport company on the eve of a state-imposed deadline to halt operation of Line 5, which moves oil through northern Wisconsin and Michigan to refineries in Ontario. Enbridge repeated its intention to defy Whitmer’s demand.

A nearly 4-mile-long (6.4-kilometer-long) section of Line 5 divides into two pipes that cross the bottom of the Straits of Mackinac, which connects Lake Michigan and Lake Huron.

Whitmer, backed by environmentalists and native tribes, says the segment is vulnerable to a catastrophic spill in the cold, swirling channel. She revoked an easement last November that Michigan had granted in 1953 for the pipes to occupy the lake bottom and ordered them closed by May 12.

Enbridge insists the segment is in good condition and says its loss would cause economic damage in both countries, a position shared by the Canadian government, which filed a legal brief Tuesday in support of the company.

In her letter to Vern Yu, Enbridge’s executive vice president for liquids pipelines, Whitmer said continued operation of the line after Wednesday “constitutes an intentional trespass” and that the company would do so “at its own risk.”

“If the state prevails in the underlying litigation, Enbridge will face the prospect of having to disgorge to the state all profits it derives from its wrongful use of the easement lands following that date,” Whitmer said.

Ed + 1. After taking every wrong turn in Michigan she ends up in a WH administration that is also taking every wrong turn. A perfect fit!

Yes, this is the dolt who – during a lockdown that found lots of people at home with little to do and agriculture idling in many places – barred larger stores from selling seeds, soils, plants, and other gardening supplies as “not necessary to sustain or protect life” while considering that liquor and lottery tickets WERE essentials.

I know I am stating the obvious here but these people really are communists, this is not hyperbole. They want to control the means of production and what products can be used.

The other edge of the sword. Any of you who have participated in the permitting process to do any routine maintenance on any man made asset on any piece of federal or state owned land know what a bureaucratic nightmare that can be. The rule is this: the rule is what ever the bureaucrats say it is based upon the prevailing winds of ‘environmental’ groups and their power over federal or state bureaucracy at that particular time. Statute means nothing. The Chevron Standard is on steroids and meth when progressives are in power. So if you need to do routine maintenance on your pipeline. high tension lines and towers, or even a quail guzzler you are forced in to a years long permitting process often ending in a years long wait to determine the prevailing winds. Madness. And there is no statute law to mandate or support this madness. It is all bureaucratic wheel spinning and navel gazing for the sake of the aforementioned. We are truly mad.

The real kicker is to think for a nanosecond now that they can pull easements… now that will finish off the society.. thanks for your comment… always appreciated.

As I said in my similar post (https://markone1blog.wordpress.com/2021/05/12/look-in-the-mirror-joe/), the gas shortage Joe wants to blame on COVID stems from a combination of NIMBY (not-in-my-backyard) attitude in the Northeast, Biden’s “green” proclamations eliminating oil leases, closing pipelines, shutting down access to existing oil reserves, and otherwise preventing America from being energy independent.

And yes, despite the millions paid from Moscow to Biden, Russian hackers did seem to be involved in the shutdown of the pipeline. Too bad Biden shut down what may have been a backup.

Over the past 50 years we survived Nixon’s Russian Wheat Deal ( if you’re unfamiliar you must look it up), Watergate, the Jimmy hyper inflation Carter Years, Bill and Hills fornicating, 9/11, and while we were fixated on Obama’s race war the dumbest man in Washington pulled off what will be the first of many stolen elections with the approval of half of America, academia, corporate America, government at every level, foreign governments and seemingly our military. Along with erasing our history, under educating our children while surrendering their education to Marxist trained teachers, celebrating and rewarding sexual misdirection, unanswered burning down of our cities, hiding the coming hyperinflation and possibly worst of all losing the Academy Awards Night to the “hood” elites (ha ha ha) It’s anybody’s guess if we survive.

I was going to post Carter’s Malaise speech with our thermostats at 55 at night and 65 during the day but my heart wasn’t in it….; along with his gas lines.

Between Biden and Whitmer, we could have the Jimmy Carter years back: the gas lines, the inflation, the wondering whether we would drop into war with Russia, …

Washington-speak is alive and well as energy secretary Granholm says nothing. From this video may we assume the press has no problem reporting her jabbererwocky as credible prognostication?
In other news Build Back Better is back. I put on local news this morning for the first time in ages and this is what I get Biden’s version of Shovel Ready.

This governor has been plaguing us for far too long.
She has made it a focal point of her administration to effectively add to the energy costs of the entire Upper Peninsula!
Of course, they didn’t vote for her.
Any examination of the upgrade to Line 5 shows it to be almost impregnable to damage, (anchor drags in particular).
We laugh about leftist stupidity. But it is a gun to our heads.
How does one respond to a gun to ones head?
    Remove the threat.
