Glen Greenwald sets the record straight on what the publication “The Intercept” is in the process of doing apparently for the government. Why else? Sifting through Gab they claim is a “far-right social network.” This after we learn what Biden is “mulling” doing.
Biden admin mulls partnering with private firms to monitor extremists
The Biden administration is reportedly considering contracting outside firms to track ”extremist” chatter online in order to circumvent legal restrictions on the surveillance power of federal agencies like the Department of Homeland Security.
To get around restrictions, the federal government is reportedly weighing enlisting outside entities that can legally encounter these groups and gather information.
Working with these companies would allow the DHS to better analyze trends and provide more real-time information for its use and for the FBI, which also is unable to surveil US citizens without first getting a warrant or proving some overarching justification like a previous investigation.
The CIA and the National Security Agency are under similar restrictions.

Off off topic: it’s late but I want to share the crash and burn of our culture. Just saw the following TV commercial: A public service message/ commercial featuring a transsexual woman-I think- touting the wonders of transexuality ending with “If you can see us you can be us.”
Years ago our kids could stay up a bit late on an occasional weekend watching TV ….. the end may arrive sooner than we think.

We elected these people, and we keep reelecting them. If they are stealing elections it is because we are not vigilant and we allow them to steal elections. There are a few hundred people in the government, a few thousand at most, and 330 million of us. And we lie supine and allow them to have their way with us.

I recall a survey conducted more than a few years ago where people were questioned about their confidence in Congress. Overall, very low confidence rate. The second question addressed how respondents felt about their own congressman/senator … a very high confidence rate for those guys. I have no idea how wide the survey population was, but it reveals much about the American electorate. As you say, we are no longer capable of critical thinking. Heck, just regular thinking would be an improvement.

Addendum: I should add, in fairness to US history, I have seen NO evidence that the American people EVER gave much thought to whom they were electing to “represent them” in the federal government. So, from that standpoint, it’s business as usual in America — and it explains in the simplest of terms, how “free shit” has become the main factor in who “we the people” vote for. A reasonable person might therefore conclude that if our government is corrupt, it is because the people are corrupt.

I have to ask — what government restrictions is Biden talking about? It seems to me that the government has been conducting unrestricted monitoring of Americans since the so-called Patriot Act and that in a long line of witnesses of high-ranking agency directors have perjured themselves in testimony before Congress about data collection, etc., and smirked into the camera while doing it. Biden’s ploy is clever, though. Tyranny doesn’t exist unless the government is doing it. So then, how’s Alexa working out, do you think? Is there any chance your friendly app is recording your conversations and speeding them along to Uncle Sam? So, here’s the thing: paranoia only exists when you THINK people are conspiring against you; when they really ARE, you aren’t paranoid.
Under such circumstances, it is easy to transform people into “conspiracy” nuts. It makes you wonder if that isn’t part of the game. Significantly, or so I think, it isn’t just a matter of one, or even two government efforts to transform America into a communist state. The government, led by Democrats/communists, fully supported by socialist Republicans, has instituted a myriad of programs to achieve their goals and we might initiate our understanding of this by asking this one question: who are the “extremists” government monitors? Obviously not BLM or Anti-Fa. Obviously not church groups led by trans-gendered morons. It must be anyone who clings to their Bibles, the Constitution, and their guns. And while everyone thinks that gun-ownership saves them from tyranny, folks, “we the people” are seriously “out-gunned.” The people at Waco, Ruby Ridge, Mr. Finicum, Elian Gonzalez … murdered or seized by the so-called “oath takers.”
This isn’t my grandmother’s America anymore. Say what you want about Mr. Snowden … he at least did something.

P.S. There are two aspects of law. The intent of the law, and the spirit in which is was written. What kind of government circumvents either the spirit or intent of its own laws? Think about that for a few minutes. For the chief executive of the nation to look for ways of circumventing the law he has sworn to uphold is about as nefarious as it is possible to be. Circumventing the law would seem (to me) to be an impeachable offense. Not even the “out of control” Tucker Carlson has cracked this nut.

My wife received an Alexa as a Christmas present last year(2019) It sat in its box until several months ago.whn we tried it out to play music. After several days we decided we didn’t need a spy in our kitchen where it now sits in its (her) box. We’re not letting her out until she tells us where she’s funneling our taste in music to!

More lists. The Department of Fatherland Security did a wonderful job in creating no fly lists. They managed to ban Bronze Star recipients, retired State Police Officers, and various other solid citizens based upon completely spurious information from other spurious databases. I already know I am a marked man. I don’t even bother trying to hide my identity in these blogs. Anyone with a rudimentary knowledge of TCP/IP protocols knows that you are posting a neon sign every time you post. Hiding is not an option. Being a hard target is. I am a life member of every major gun rights group, the president of a gun collectors group, an instructor, coach and safety officer. I am very public about my feelings on original interpretation of our Constitution and live my oath every day. Progressives hate that and when they take a break from oppressing minorities or killing in vitro humans they might just send their thugs after me. The only defense is a strong wall of community and a firm and resounding “Hell No” to their pronouncements and their policies. Know this one thing about the Progressive New Left: they are very brave warriors for the masses while in the coffee shops. On a battlefield they are missing in action. They are frauds and cowards. That is how I could go to a couple of left wing universities with a high and tight and USMC sweat shirts and every Friday in Summer or Winter Service Charlies and not one would say a word. They have never met a real warrior. They crumble when they do. Should they start using their tracking lists as target lists the reaction will shock them. They are not used to real resistance. I feel like I have come full circle — or to be more accurate 180 degrees. Growing up I had confidence and belief in government, in police, in all LE agencies. I believed if government LE went after someone they were guilty of something. Government is good, they don’t go after innocent people!!! I believed government acted with the best interests of the People at heart.
Oh how wrong I was. Illusions shattered! Beliefs shredded! Government is evil! Law enforcement is corrupted!! There are no good guys!!
Do we — the People — even have a chance at saving our beloved federal Constitutional Republic??? Or is the US already dead and we are performing CPR on a lifeless corpse???

That brings to mind an exchange I had with the pharmacy manager before I moved. He was telling one of the other techs about this cool new app which gave money back for filling out a form.about items purchased.
I was horrified. I asked him why he would reveal all this personal information about himself and his family for a couple of dollars.
He didn’t see a problem, he said everything is tracked anyway, he might as well get a few bucks for it.
He is in his early thirties, married with two daughters under 4. He sees no problem at all with all his purchases being monitored and tracked. He doesn’t see a problem with that information being used for whatever reason.
I can’t fathom that mindset. Unimaginable.
