The irony of it all. Reparations funds coming from drug taxation by the government. We might ask how this whole thing is legal. After watching endless hours of impeachment hearings why bother. Here we go:
Evanston City Council passed a measure last month that will funnel the city’s tax revenue generated from the sale of recreational marijuana to a local reparations fund. The move has attracted attention from national and regional groups that have long advocated for investment in black communities through reparations.
(Stock Photo) …
The event, which was promoted but not sponsored by the city, was designed as a celebration of Evanston’s reparations initiative and the start of a continuing dialogue. The fund will be capped at $10 million and officials say it will be used to help the city’s black community with economic development, education and housing, among other issues. The fund will be paid for with a 3% sales tax on adult recreational marijuana, which becomes legal in Illinois Jan. 1.
…
White residents still earn significantly more money, on average, than Evanston’s black residents, said Ald. Robin Rue Simmons (5th Ward), who spearheaded the reparations effort. That fact, along with declining black homeownership and a declining number of black residents in town, pushed Simmons to propose the fund.
…
Evanston’s reparations measure was passed in an 8-1 vote. No one spoke out against the effort at the meeting where it was passed. A Reparations Subcommittee has been formed to determine the exact ways in which the fund’s proceeds will be used and distributed.
Bonus: NJ Dems start process that would lead to pay Blacks reparations
Other than that all is well in the swamp.

Unfortunately we know how this works, once something like this gets implemented on a small level as a test program it will eventually spread and expand. This is just the beginning…

I can’t see how this is legal. But you are right… a virus that will expand.

They are not going to let a little thing like legality get in the way of the agenda… 😉

Only California and Illinois could screw up weed selling. The Northwestern U. snowflakes that this bill is aimed at will buy their weed on the black market where it is cheaper.
Selling dope is not going to solve the pension crisis or exodus out of Illinois and California.

My generation remembers the good old days when a pay envelope full without seeds or twigs cost $5.00 and a college semester cost $500.00. Bring back the the nickle bag… for the kids for the kids….

This is somewhat discouraging. However, on an uplifting side, the people of all colors that I work with have pretty much met Dr. M. L. King Jr.’s standard of earning their way “not by the color of their skin, but by the content of their character.”
To the chagrin of the environmentalists in the world, we all work at a oilfield services support company.

Good to point out not tp paint with too wide a brush… but when these issues arise, one cannot help be disgusted by the sense of entitlement.

It passed by a vote of 8 to 1. Wow. ONE person with some common sense. Other cities will follow this template…like lemmings.

Anyone want to bet that one vote doomed his or her political career? A template indeed.

HP, I’ve lived in Jersey practically fr my entire life and the end began with Governor Richard Hughes. The only decent governor in the past 50 years was Governor William Cahill and the state’s corrupt made short work of him. The Clinton and Obama loving voters of NJ will surely give a second undeserved term to this knucklehead Murphy; but you knew that already I’m sure.
P.S. I worked in Newark and Elizabeth for nearly 20 years and. I could tell you stories about this subculture that you might find hard to believe. No wait, of course you would believe it.

I find it ironic that liberals support Dreamers because it’s not fair to hold them responsible for for the actions of their parents, but have no problem with reparations for blacks who were never slaves paid by those who are not even related to original slave owners.

As I have said before…
Reparations have already been paid to black people in the form of Food Stamps ~ Welfare and other Gov programs
Black people have taken advantage of the system for decades
Enjoying what they were never eligible for in the first place

This city I lived in for 19 years in NJ I became friendly with this black woman
Thru her I met her black friends
They would all be very proud and brag about how they were ripping off the Gov thru Welfare
Food Stamps was a must for them
As they all drove nice new cars and owned their homes
The Gov pays 75% of their utility bills
Property tax deductions and rebates
Free weatherization on their homes
Free medical and dental
The list goes on…
They earn cash under the table
And have 2 bank accounts
One for Welfare that has a balance of $300 so they look poor and needy
Welfare does not check assets
I will add to this that I became rather insulted by this and decided I didn’t need that kind of friends
After all it was our tax dollars funded their lies
