DNC resolution praises “religiously unaffiliated” as largest group in party

The Democratic National Committee (DNC) has passed a new resolution praising America’s “religiously unaffiliated” as the “largest religious group within the Democratic Party.” This was passed unanimously this week by the DNC at their summer meeting in San Francisco, California.

Looks like the Democrats have found a way to move even more left if that seemed possible. One has to ask if the “religiously unaffiliated” share the party’s values what about those who are religious? Just asking.

“Religiously unaffiliated Americans overwhelmingly share the Democratic Party’s values,” the resolution states.

The resolution also says that the political party should push for “rational public policy based on sound science and universal humanistic values.”

“[T]he religiously unaffiliated demographic represents the largest religious group within the Democratic Party, growing from 19% in 2007 to one in three today,” says the resolution. “… [T]he Democratic Party is an inclusive organization that recognizes that morals, values, and patriotism are not unique to any particular religion, and are not necessarily reliant on having a religious worldview at all.”

“[T]hose most loudly claiming that morals, values, and patriotism must be defined by their particular religious views have used those religious views, with misplaced claims of ‘religious liberty,’ to justify public policy that has threatened the civil rights and liberties of many Americans, including but not limited to the LGBT community, women, and ethnic and religious/nonreligious minorities,” it says.

Theologians condemn Christian Nationalism…’grave sins against God the Creator’

Dozens of Christian theologians condemned Christian nationalism in an open letter. Their sentiments are echoed in a document prepared by the Baptist Joint Committee for Religious Liberty, which condemns Christian nationalism “as a distortion of the gospel of Jesus and a threat to American democracy.” More than 10,000 Christians have signed on to that document.

Stanley Hauerwas, professor emeritus at Duke Divinity School and one of the letter’s signatories, argues that nationalism is inconsistent with Christianity.

The letter, was published in the liberal Catholic magazine Commonweal this week.

It was only a matter of time until patriotic Christians were going to have to accept that the last source from whence they could drink to find inspiration and solace – The Church – would become just another political action tool – Simply a PAC. Even though the IRS is clear that for a church to maintain its Tax exempt status it must remove itself from politics.

However under the cloak of the bible, little interest by the IRS, churches have ramped up their Progressive creed. Under the cover of “Social Justice” there are few boundaries. Patriotism gets lost in the discussion. This is not the beginning… earlier under Obama

EPA to study Churches, develop programs to combat climate change

But now this latest letter and screed is a new and potent attack on conservative christians. Now they are into comparing the rising Germany last century with today’s American patriotism. Those who support a country with limited immigration are subject to the “hell fire and brimstone” sermons of long ago. This time, the punishment will be meted out by the church itself with this dire warning..

. ”ethno-nationalism…as grave sins against God the Creator.”

Without further adieu here tis:

Commonweal is pleased to publish the following open letter about the disturbing rise of nationalism, especially among some Christians, in the United States.

The signatories, which include Catholic, Orthodox, and Protestant theologians, “reject nationalism’s tendency to homogenize and narrow the church to a single ethnos,” arguing that “[i]f the church is not ethnically plural, it is not the church.” They also condemn the “xenophobia and racism of many forms of ethno-nationalism…as grave sins against God the Creator.”

In the 1930s many serious Christian thinkers in Germany believed they could manage an alliance with emergent illiberal nationalism. Prominent theologians like Paul Althaus and Friedrich Gogarten believed that the National Socialist movement offered a new opportunity to strengthen social order and cohesion around Christian identity. But some Christians immediately resisted, most visibly in the Barmen Declaration of 1934, which rejected the compromises of “German” Christianity and its heinous distortions of the Gospel.

Our situation in 2019 is surely different, but American Christians now face a moment whose deadly violence has brought such analogies to mind. Again we watch as demagogues demonize vulnerable minorities as infesting vermin or invading forces who weaken the nation and must be removed. Again we watch as fellow Christians weigh whether to fuse their faith with nationalist and ethno-nationalist politics in order to strengthen their cultural footing.

Here are a few of their main points in the letter:

1. We reject the pretensions of nationalism to usurp our highest loyalties. National identity has no bearing on the debts of love we owe other sons and daughters of God. Created in the image and likeness of God, all human beings are our neighbors regardless of citizenship status.

4. We reject nationalism’s claim that the stranger, refugee, and migrant are enemies of the people. Where nationalism fears the stranger as a threat to political community, the church welcomes the stranger as necessary for full communion with God. Jesus Christ identifies himself with the poor, imprisoned foreigner in need of hospitality. “For I was hungry and you gave me no food, I was thirsty and you gave me no drink, a stranger and you gave me no welcome, naked and you gave me no clothing, ill and in prison, and you did not care for me” (Matthew 25:41-43).

5. We reject the nationalist’s inclination to despair when unable to monopolize power and dominate opponents. When Christians change from majority to minority status in a given country, they should not contort their witness in order to stay in power. The church remains the church even as a political minority, even when unable to influence the government or when facing persecution.

In charity and in hope, we urge our fellow Christians to repudiate the temptations and the falsehoods of nationalism. The politics of xenophobia, even when dressed up in high-minded social critique, can only be pursued in contradiction of the Gospel. A true culture of life welcomes the stranger, embraces the orphan, and binds the wounds of all who are our neighbors—all who lie lifeless on the road, as the pious walk silently past.

Kansas Library board undecided about sex crime checks for story tellers

Library board can’t agree on sex crime checks proposed after drag queen story event.  So goes the headline. Perverse to say the least. Setting aside the issue of decent role models for our kids, do we really not care if sex offenders are interacting with our kids? Parents! Board! What is wrong with you!

A proposal to background-check people for past sex offenses before they are allowed to make presentations at Wichita libraries was put on hold Tuesday, after a split in the board between those who want a complete ban on sex offenders and those who want staff to have some leeway.

The policy originated in a backlash against a drag queen story time almost a year ago at the Advanced Learning Library and has been criticized by the leader of the LGBT-rights group Equality Kansas.

Drag queens drew more than 200 people on September 25, 2018 to the downtown Wichita library for story time.

On a motion from board Chairman Kevin McWhorter, the board voted to send the policy back to its operations committee for further revision.

Board member Lamont Anderson Sr. referenced a long list of sex crimes covered by the proposed policy including rape, aggravated sexual assault, aggravated sodomy, solicitation of prostitution and lewd and lascivious conduct. Ed: You think so?

“To me, some of these, they’re just hard noes,” Anderson said. “It’s not someone I would want presenting to my granddaughter. That’s just me being truthful.

Pastor Craig Coffey, who leads a small congregation in Derby, said the board erred earlier in passing a policy that appears to allow drag queen story hours like the “Say YAAAS to Reading” event that drew a standing-room-only crowd at the library last year.

The event brought about 220 adults and their children to watch men who were dressed and made up as women read from LGBT-sympathetic children’s books.

NASA map shows Africa has more fires burning than Brazil

The dust up with France’s Macron and the President of Brazil’s Jair Bolsonaro regarding the fires burning in the Amazon left out one small detail. Africa is on fire as well. NASA maps show that there are more fires in the African region than in the Amazon.

The on again off again acceptance of money to fight the Amazon fire lost sight that we have fires everywhere. The G-7 Summit raised $20 Million to assist in putting out the fires in Brazil.

No doubt more proof that humans are just too destructive to the “lungs” of earth.

Another detail never mentioned is that long before planes and humans, fires raged across the planet. It was nature’s way of regeneration. Old growth was removed and new growth lead to food sources for animals and birds.

But after all now, humans are much wiser. An earlier post:

CA Fires of Hell? Thank Obama and the Environmentalists

“Hotter, drier, longer forest fires we are witnessing today have nothing to do with dangerous manmade climate change. They have a lot to do with idiotic forest mismanagement policies and practices. Diseases are devastating the Forest.

It’s the worst of both worlds, small fires are not allowed to burn allowing forests to rejuvenate with new growth and browse necessary to sustain animal life. Appropriate logging has been stopped or severely curtailed thus limiting barriers to these hellish fires as well and help keeping forests healthy.

In a 2016 Townhall column, Paul Driessen explains:

Eco-purists want no cutting, no thinning – no using fire retardants in “sensitive” areas because the chemicals might get into streams that will be boiled away by conflagrations. They prevent homeowners from clearing brush around their homes, because it might provide cover or habitat for endangered species and other critters that will get incinerated or lose their forage, prey and habitats in the next blaze. They rarely alter their policies during drought years.

The resulting fires are not the “forest-rejuvenating” blazes of environmentalist lore. They are cauldron-hot conflagrations that exterminate wildlife habitats, roast bald eagle and spotted owl fledglings alive in their nests, boil away trout and trout streams, leave surviving animals to starve, and incinerate every living organism in already thin soils … that then get washed away during future downpours and snow melts. Areas incinerated by such fires don’t recover their arboreal biodiversity for decades.

But I digressed. Of course I don’t think that the fires burning in the Amazon are a good thing. I just suggest keeping a perspective. Fires have raged across the earth long before humans came on the scene:

Over a period of two days last week, Angola had approximately three times more fires than Brazil , according to data that Bloomberg news agency obtained from Weather Source. On Sunday, 6,902 fires were recorded in Angola and 3,395 in the neighboring Democratic Republic of the Congo , compared to 2,127 fires in Brazil. In the last 48 hours, Zambia ranked fourth in the list of countries with the most fires and Bolivia, a neighbor of Brazil, ranked sixth.

Fires in Africa and South America

It remains to be determined whether these are grassland or forest fires, the magnitude of these and whether they have been caused . Experts say that the fires in the rainforest of Central Africa are often seasonal and are linked to traditional farming methods . African farmers set fire to forests in the dry season to “clean” the land in order to plant crops. Deforestation, soil erosion and loss of biodiversity are some of the consequences of using this agricultural technique known as ” logging and burning ” and is usually carried out by these dates, one month before the start of the season of rains

According to NASA, in June last year more than 67,000 fires were registered in a period of one week..

NYC de Blasio’s panel recommends eliminating all gifted school programs

What to do with bright Dick and Jane in the New York school system? They have no right to an enrichment program. After all, they are more likely White. Forget that dear old mom and dad are more likely doing the heavy lifting in paying taxes to support the school system and educating the Johnnies that aren’t so bright. Just who is paying for the school lunch programs and whatever else?

No, in the Socialist perfect world we simply want mediocrity. We want no advancement for the brightest in supporting their creativity. After all they are our future scientists and engineers.  Good work New York. This should bring about a new wave of ‘White Flight” and even worse, poor Black, Hispanics and Asians bright kids will be restricted in getting the opportunity at fulfilling their potential.

No they must be sacrificed on the altar of so called desegregation.

Chalkbeat:

The advisory group tasked with finding new ways to integrate New York City schools is recommending the nation’s largest school system eliminate gifted programs and selective admissions at most city schools.

Those are some of the proposals unveiled Monday night by the School Diversity Advisory Group, made up of academics, students, parents, and advocates appointed by Mayor Bill de Blasio. Earlier this year, 62 of the diversity advisory group’s 67 initial recommendations became city policy.

Their latest recommendations take aim at admissions policies that have been seen as critical for getting white, middle-class families who might otherwise leave the city or choose private schools to enroll in public schools.

Any of the proposed changes have the potential to ignite intense pushback. The group recognizes this tension and says they believe their recommendations “thread that needle in a bold and balanced way,” the report’s authors write.

The report calls for the admissions test to be dropped and for programs to be phased out by not enrolling any new students. Instead, the group advises that the city provide local districts with resources to create their own alternatives that avoid the kind of “rigid academic tracking” that can lead to internally segregated schools.

The New York Times and the Wall Street Journal have more on the topic behind a paywall. More at Chalkbeat

A press conference is scheduled for 1pm today. It will be interesting to hear what our Presidential candidate de Blasio has to say on the matter.

Other than that, all is well in the New York swamp.

Jen Rubin: GOP Should Be ‘Burned Down’ with No ‘Survivors

The heat rose on the Sunday talkies against the GOP to a new flame thrower level. Literally. This no less from the Washington Post’s Jennifer Rubin. If we thought the Old Gray Lady was moribund, the Post is on a mission to out do her in her death cry.

On Sunday’s AM Joy on MSNBC, Washington Post columnist Jennifer Rubin renewed a previous attack on former Donald Trump administration members as she declared that they should be “shunned” for the rest of the lives, and that the Republican Party should figuratively be “burned down” so that there are no “survivors,” punishing Trump’s “enablers.”

Rubin then repeated her call for “shunning” and “shaming” Trump administration members and complained that the University of Virginia had employed a former Trump staffer for a while. The disgruntled ex-Republican then aimed further vitriol at her former party:

It’s not only that Trump has to lose, but that all his enablers have to lose — we have to collectively, in essence, burn down the Republican party. We have to level them because if there are survivors — if there are people who weather this storm, they will do it again — will take this as confirmation that, “Hey, it just pays to ride the wave — look at me, I’ve made it through.”

This has become a dysfunctional anti-government party. That is not what the country wants and what it needs. And the proof is in the pudding. The reason they engage in voter suppression is because their underlying agenda is very unpopular. No one’s in favor, it turns out, of taking away people’s health care. People don’t like it when you come after Medicaid and Medicare.

We conservative Gopers disregard what is happening at our peril. What is becoming clear is that we will have an opening on the Supreme court very soon. Not that in the end it will effect our cause to the better to have an addition of a GOP selection. No need to beat that horse.

But this will totally have the Democrats frothing at the mouth. Was it a coincidence that we had the movie “The Hunt” – where elites hunt down deplorables – scheduled to come out this fall?

As if that wasn’t enough, Newsweek decided what was best to do with us after the hunt.

The Hunt –  and it will make it to a theatre near you before the election.

Sunday Respite – Yesterday

For today’s Sunday’s Respite I have chosen Yesterday by Adam Rafferty.

This week marks the tenth anniversary of Bunkerville’s humble beginnings.

Looking back what was created was a political history. A diary of sorts. Simply amazing some of the political challenges we faced. The halcyon days of the Tea Party movement of which we were a part.

In the end, it was I who decided to continue the blog.., so there is only one person behind the curtain now. So let’s just say Bunk has her hand on the wheel now.

Thanks to all who have supported Bunkerville in so many ways. Those who take the time to comment and have become “virtual friends” a special thank you.

A special thanks to Mustang and his guest posts.

Best wishes for a wonderful day!  The song “Yesterday” seems especially appropriate.

This is best watching this in full screen. A list of last week’s post are below the clip.

Newsweek: Time to re-think the taboo on cannibalism?

Newsweek just published an article saying we should rethink the taboo on cannibalism. This is when you realize the evil, diabolical, anti-human, genocidal tendencies of the Left are real. The British magazine The Economist starts the ball rolling.

Earlier this week, I posted The Economist alarmed that poor people are eating more meat around the world

Poor people eating more meat means it is ‘bad news for the environment.’ That means they will live longer, healthier lives. More global warming. Poor people. They need to start thinking of the environment instead of survival and what not.

It included a chilling video that only a few years ago would have been unheard of to even consider publishing. If that wasn’t chilling enough, now we have Newsweek. It almost seems to be an orchestrated plan in attempting in de-sensitizing us.

Read the Newsweek post if you have the stomach for it. Breitbart picks up the tale.

Since cannibalism is found throughout the animal kingdom and therefore is something natural, perhaps it is time for humans to rethink the “ultimate taboo” against eating human flesh, Newsweek proposes in an article this week.

There is nothing necessarily unethical or unreasonable about eating human flesh, declare psychologists Jared Piazza and Neil McLatchie of Lancaster University, but careful reasoning over the merits of cannibalism is often “overridden by our feelings of repulsion and disgust.

Adapting to the unfamiliar

”We suspect that we could adapt to human flesh if need be. Many people develop disgust for all kinds of meat, while morticians and surgeons quickly adapt to the initially difficult experience of handling dead bodies. Our ongoing research with butchers in England suggests that they easily adapt to working with animal parts that the average consumer finds quite disgusting.

While not going so far as to recommend cannibalism, saying “there is no need to overcome our repulsion for the foreseeable future,” the two authors suggest that humans could master their aversion for human flesh if they needed to.

Here an everyday ordinary woman feels compelled to respond and does it in a sobering and thoughtful way. Well worth watching. As she comments “The mask is slipping.”

Talib’s Palestinian village one of the richest – Grandmother not deprived

To hear from Talib she came from some hell hole, leaving her Granny to fend for herself. But no surprise, most of these Marxist wonders hail from well-to-do families. Curious isn’t it that there is precious little reported on the history of these so-called “Squad” members and their lives?

Tliab at Islamic Society of North America

Looks like our gal Rashida Harbi Tlaib comes from the “right side of the tracks…

So much for the “give me your tired your poor.” Not our gal Rashida. Bet she knows how to use a garbage disposal. You betcha

Israel Hayom:

Even the World Bank said in 2014 that Tlaib’s village is one of the richest in the Palestinian Authority.

But she insists things are terrible there.

What is it really like to live in the Palestinian village Beit-Ur al-Fauqa, where Rep. Rashida Tlaib’s grandmother and other family members live? Are conditions there as bad as she has claimed?

Achiam Tlaib, for example, drives a brand new BMW. On his Facebook account, you can see that his family lives in a very comfortable three-story building.

Raja Tlaib shared on his Facebook account pictures of himself posing next to his new Mercedes, wearing an expensive suit. He also has pictures showing him working out in a gym that has the latest equipment.

Mawaid Tlaib uploaded pictures of his vacations in Italy and other places, and Anas Tlaib has a very expensive Mercedes.

Samach Tlaib drives a BMW and Niaf Tlaib drives a Corvette convertible and uploaded pictures posing next to his new home under construction, also with three stories.

Only a handful of villages have a lower poverty rate in the PA and employment in the village is also among the lowest in the PA. But perhaps the most important statistic is this: The rate of social mobility in Beit-Ur al-Fauqa is among the highest in the PA.

And of course, all the structures are privately owned. According to the report, almost every home has satellite TV, and most have LCD screens in their living rooms. Almost everyone in the village has access to the internet and a mobile phone. Half of the families own a car.

Other hints that life is not so bad:

The elderly matriarch of Tlaib’s clan sat beneath an olive tree in the garden of the family’s home in the village of Beit Ur Al-Fauqa.

They had planned to slaughter a sheep and the sity, Arabic for grandma, wanted to make Rashida Tlaib’s beloved stuffed grape leaves.

Trump also took a particularly cheap personal shot at the Tlaib family, saying the grandmother, who has lived more than half her long life under Israeli military occupation, should be happy not to host her famous granddaughter, whom she has not seen since 2006.

So much for Israeli occupation.

Poor people eating more meat means it is ‘bad news for the environment.’ That means they will live longer, healthier lives. More global warming. Poor people. They need to start thinking of the environment instead of survival and what not.

Usually progressive liberalism masks its racism better than this…Should we just gas them?

You used to do the ‘enough of me, too much of you’ better.

More poor people are eating meat around the world. That means they will live longer, healthier lives, but it is bad news for the environment  https://econ.st/2NfwKWd

We must teach them the wonders of wokeness, such that they seek out only avocado toast and pumpkin spice latte.

If only they could purchase carbon offsets and other indulgences, like their betters in the first world do.

Wokeness gets closer and closer to genocide. Those damn poor people screwing up the environment by living.

There is nothing new about eugenics.

Nothing new at all.
