NYC deliberately gummed up traffic, now will tax the poor devils ‘congestion fees’

de Blasio

First NYC gums up the traffic system deliberately a few years ago. Supported by the Obama administration. Not enough pain New Yorkers? Here comes the double whammy. Going to cost you $10 bucks or so to drive into Manhattan. How is all that Progressive stuff working out for you New Yorkers? But anyone paying attention saw this coming.

New York City has intentionally caused the traffic nightmare

If you had any thought that the Progressives were absolutely evil, this should be your confirmation. Back in 2010 we heard what Lahood with the Department of Transportation had in mind for us nationally. Bloomberg and de blasio no doubt got big bucks for New York City in turning the traffic into chaos.

The Setup.  Back in 2010 I wrote a post LaHood: “We are going to “Coerce” people out of their cars

It’s going to be swell

LaHood signed the new policy directive on March 11. “This is the end of favoring motorized transportation at the expense of non-motorized.”

On May 21, LaHood told reporters at the National Press Club that the “Partnership for Sustainable Communities’ his department had formed with the Environmental Protection Agency and the Department of Housing—sometimes known as the “livability initiative”–was designed to “coerce” people out of their cars.

Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood has announced that federal transportation policies will no longer favor “motorized” transportation, such as cars and trucks, over “non-motorized” transportation, such as walking and bicycling. he effusively described it as a “sea change” for the United States. Get out your sail.

The Implementation:

Time for some traffic problems in Manhattan!  December 2016

City officials have intentionally ground Midtown to a halt with the hidden purpose of making drivers so miserable that they leave their cars at home and turn to mass transit or bicycles, high-level sources told The Post.

Today’s gridlock is the result of an effort by the Bloomberg and de Blasio administrations over more than a decade of redesigning streets and ramping up police efforts, the sources said.

“The traffic is being engineered,” a former top NYPD official told The Post, explaining a long-term plan that began under Mayor Mike Bloomberg and hasn’t slowed with Mayor de Blasio.

“The city streets are being engineered to create traffic congestion, to slow traffic down, to favor bikers and pedestrians,” the former official said.

“There’s a reduction in capacity through the introduction of bike lanes and streets and lanes being closed down.”

The goal of the jammed traffic is to shift as many drivers as possible to public transit or bicycles.

More NY Post with the details of how they are carrying out their plan.

Starting in 2021, drivers will be charged approximately $10 for driving into parts of Manhattan as part of the state’s new budget deal; Laura Ingle has the details.

Other than this, all is well in the Progressive swamp.

They are fast creating this congestion nightmare in Charlotte, NC and surrounding suburbs. All to force everyone into mass transit and bike lanes. Cramming more and more “transit oriented development” day after day…developers getting rich along with the stack ‘n pack apts., light rail and bike lanes and greenways, etc. It really is a nightmare.

This is a case where I have a hard time feeling sorry for these people because they are getting what they deserve. I like to think that they will learn from this and fix it when they have the chance but I don’t think they will.

I was reading this topic in our paper–we are 6 hours west of NYC in western NY. ANYWAYS–it will cost nearly $100 to get wherever in NYC now thanks to tolls. NYC can shove it, this state needs to be cut in 1/2 since the dems pander only to the city folk. Western / upstate NY voted for Trump, yet our vote really didn’t count thanks to the city folk. That’s another subject for another day.

Keep in mind the purported purpose for “congestion pricing”- kinda sounds like climate change evolving from global warming- is to raise and increase funding for the city’s MTA-Money Taking Agency. The best analogy for this contrived debacle would be the life of a dung beetle. Rolling its ball of fecal matter up the hill, approaching the summit, with seemingly success at hand at last, the beetle loses its grip and the ball of poop rolls back over the hapless dung beetle cruelly crushing it. But wait, the beetle shakes itself off, retrieves the ball and looks to increase its size before once again beginning the uphill battle.
NYC? Keep in mind the people inhabiting the world’s center of finance, banking and commerce elected a self declared card carrying communist as its mayor, a mayor whose wife cannot account for half a billion bucks supposedly spent on helping the poor and is not taken to task for same; reminiscent of Obama misplacing $970 million shovel ready buckaroos or former NJ democrat Governor Corzine misplacing $5 billion while in office and another $1.5 billion working in the private sector. Ignorance is bliss…. The times they are not a changing.

I can definitely see how one can analogize dung beetles with Democrats. There is an anecdote from the days when George Washington was trying his best to form, maintain, and employ his revolutionary army. They were undisciplined rabble and desertion was common. Washington concluded that this problem would continue until deserters were court-martialed and shot. He did that. Amazingly, the Continental Army suddenly stopped having desertion problems. Note to NSA: I am NOT suggesting that corrupt politicians ought to be shot. Just say’in.

Update: Mayor Bill de Blasio’d Pygmy (or is it Zulu) wife has not misplaced $500 million +, but, rather $1.2 billion. Her program which she oversaw was meant for providing YOGA CLASSES for the homeless-no joke! Might we suggest the shoeless and homeless, while meditating on their refrigerator carton, change their mantra from Ommm to Hmmm? Still the people of NY will not abandon her. Meanwhile congestion pricing is estimated to bring in $800 million.

Driving inside NYC is pure crap. It isn’t much better in Washington DC, Baltimore, Philadelphia, Atlanta, or Chattanooga. The underlying fact is that these cities have been with us now for 100 or more years. Human population increases along with urban migration growth over the same period of time must end in congestion. I’ve seen pictures of NYC back in the early 1900s and its streets were a mess even then, particularly with over 13-million horses polluting the streets and sewers. This was the genesis of subway construction. So yes, congestion is a problem, but so too is the fact that people choose to live in this kind of environment.

I have noticed that there is a peculiar consistency in leftist mentality, which my friend Kid describes as an anomaly in the DNA string. On this topic alone, there are a few interesting “global” parallels.

o In California, given population increases and expansion of metropolitan areas, someone seized upon the idea of “freeways.” Between 1950 to now, these have been steadily enlarged to involve eight lanes of traffic coming and going. They even created a “diamond” lane, reserved for vehicles for two or more people. The costs to taxpayers has been staggering and yet congestion is worse today than it was in 1950. Despite the costs, the problem was never solved.

o In the UK during the Blair administration, a government study concluded the diesel-powered engines were actually better for the atmosphere. Government thereupon embraced this nonsense and encouraged everyone to buy diesel engine vehicles, which they did. Fast forward to last year, London’s Mayor Sadiq Khan announced that diesel engines are actually worse for the atmosphere than gasoline engines; therefore, Londoners would be charged £40/per day for driving their personal vehicles into the city of London.

Among leftards, higher taxes is the solution to everything, but the fact is that higher taxes never solve any problems; they only separate people from their hard-earned money. It’s one of the greatest scams in modern history: Democrats create the problem, and then increase taxes to not solve it.
