Half of Detroit’s eight Mayoral candidates are felons

What to post on a Saturday. How about this one for a change of pace? Detroit is preparing to live up to their high standards of superb candidates for Mayor. I don’t seem to see any GOP candidates in the collection. For the previous Mayor’s agenda –What Do You Do With Detroit? Bulldoze It

Well, Detroit’s mayor has an idea: Bulldoze it.

Mayor Dave Bing is apparently working on a radical plan that would bulldoze a quarter of the city — some of the most desolate areas — and return it to farmland, the way it was before the automobile. Any residents still there would be relocated to stronger neighborhoods.

Detroit — Half of the eight mayoral hopefuls on Detroit’s primary ballot next week have been convicted of felony crimes involving drugs, assault or weapons, a Detroit News analysis shows.

Three were charged with gun crimes and two for assault with intent to commit murder. Some of the offenses date back decades, the earliest to 1977. The most recent was in 2008.

Political consultant Greg Bowens said there are candidates with past hardships in every election cycle. It’s not something unique to Detroit or the political arena in general, he said.

“Black marks on your record show you have lived a little and have overcome some challenges,” said Bowens, a former press secretary to Detroit Mayor Dennis Archer and NAACP activist. “They (candidates) deserve the opportunity to be heard, but they also deserve to have the kind of scrutiny that comes along with trying to get an important elected position.”

It will be funny when the Dems have a primary debate and Duggan (the former Wayne County Prosecutor and incumbent Democrat Mayor) turns to one of his opponents and says “I remember your case. I put you away.”

I’ve been seeing that idea about bulldozing and rehabbing the land into farmland kicked about since the late 90’s. And honestly, I think it’s a good idea. Especially if it can be used as a way to offer employment via small holding farming, direct to consumer type sales.

I agree as well. The areas become safer. Sad to see what has become of Detroit. It was once a booming automobile manufacturing city. But Dems and unions took care that all of that would not last. Now more crooked politicians. I understand that the downtown has had a nice uptick and has attracted pioneers to move it.

My perspective may be just a tad different from everyone else’s … but then perhaps my life’s experiences may be different, as well. So here I go … bordering on censorship: if one simply evaluates all governments presided over by blacks, whether that be in the United States, or in deepest, darkest Africa, whether in government at the national level, or that of a local school district, there you will discover the greatest collection of thieves, swindlers, charlatans, and scoundrels imaginable. Detroit is not unusual in this regard, it is only the most easily recognizable. You could also dwindle for a moment or two in Baltimore where white politicians compete with blacks for who can be the most despicable, but it is as you’ve said … it’s Saturday.

The other day I made a comment at another blog, saying that if we wanted to clear view of Obama’s accomplishments as president, then we should (in addition) look at such statistical items as black unemployment, black-on-black crime, black abortion, and the percentage of anyone living in the black community with an IQ above 40. It wasn’t very well received, but it is the truth. Given Detroit’s history since the 1960s, what kind of person would vote for a convicted felon to serve as mayor other than (a) someone who wants to get in on the gang-rape of the city’s finances, or (b) a complete offing idiot? (Although both could be true). I think we should give Detroit back to Canada along with a note expressing our deepest apologies.

Well said as you usually do Mustang. Africa is a case in point. After the “colonialists” were thrown out, most of the countries reverted to their natural state. Rhodesia, once the bread basket of Africa can’t even feed themselves these days. No, it is not racist to talk of such things, but an acknowledgement of reality.

The people of Detroit painted themselves into a corner. Damn shame but that being said, I’m believe that NYC isn’t far behind.
