The Pope may want to be cautious in opening his arms to Abbas. He wants to ensure that Jerusalem remains safe and sound? I am not sure throwing Israel under the bus is the road to go. He might want to go over the old Vatican records and review the history. Here we go:
The Vatican stressed the sacred nature of Jerusalem on Saturday as the Palestinian leader warned that prospects for peace could suffer if the incoming Trump administration goes ahead with plans to move the U.S. embassy in Israel from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem.
After the papal meeting, Abbas formally inaugurated the new Palestinian embassy across the street from one of the main gates of Vatican City. He pulled back a curtain revealing a plaque and extended the Palestinian flag from a flagpole outside a window.
The embassy, located in the same building as the embassies of Peru, Ecuador and Burkina Faso, comes after recent accords in which the Vatican formally recognized the “State of Palestine.”
“This embassy is a place of pride for us and we hope all of the countries of the world will recognize the state of Palestine, because this recognition will bring us closer to the peace process,” he said.
The developments came as Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas met with Pope Francis and inaugurated the Palestinian embassy to the Holy See.
The Palestinians strongly oppose the U.S. embassy move, saying it would kill any hopes for negotiating an Israeli-Palestinian peace agreement and rile the region by undercutting Muslim and Christian claims to the holy city.
During the meeting, Abbas presented Francis with gifts recalling Christianity’s birthplace in the Holy Land, including a stone from the Church of the Holy Sepulcher in Jerusalem and documentation about the ongoing restoration of the Church of the Nativity in Bethlehem. More at Newsmax

With the church and the Vatican fallen prey to the progressives, the homosexuals and the communists, as a Catholic I can only imagine what this former bouncer’s successor will look like.

Just to be clear…what I mean is I admired and respected the last two Popes….(saw John Paul 3 times in person…my Catholic friends were upset that I got to do that!)…but do not respect this one, sadly…I’d like to. I sometimes like his homilies but the political stuff has soured me to him..

A.. Did you see the comment from Mustang?
This Pope is a real genius in the same sense that Hillary Clinton is really honest. What a dunce. The stone as a gift allows the Mudslimes to claim dominance over the entire Catholic faith.

You are correct. I never could figure out what it was about and the significance. I am sure the Pope could get all the stones he wants. Good insight.

This particular Bishop of Rome (as Henry VIII called that Roman title) is a Marxist. He wouldn’t know a Christian act, thought or deed if it smacked him in the face.
I don’t know that I would be classified as a ‘bible thumper’ but I do read a lot. There sure seems to be a great deal of prophecy being fulfilled all of a sudden. [see the book of Daniel] One of which is Israel must stand alone towards the ‘end’ (of this age) and with DingleBarry throwing them under the bus and many be complacent about it … Hmmmmm ….
