George Romney called Goldwater candidate Suicidal for GOP, Mitt any different with Trump?

Like son like father. Mitt is doing exactly what George Romney did to derail the nomination at the convention of Barry Goldwater. Mitt Romney is doing to Donald Trump what the Establishment beckons. Looking for a brokered convention.  This is not the first time a brokered convention was worked by them. Pat Buchanan in an uncanny prediction of possible events back this December gives us a great lesson in how the establishment breeches no less than Moby Dick whenever they fear their loss of control. They fear it now.

“Buchanan, if you ever hear of a group getting together to stop X, be sure to put your money on X.”

George Romney (Mitt’s Father) says “Nominating Goldwater is suicidal destruction”

Pat Buchanan: Will Elites Blow Up the GOP? December14, 2015

A portion of the notes from the video:

….Rocky was cooked. But then the panicked Republican governors gathered in Cleveland — Rockefeller, George Romney of Michigan, William Scranton of Pennsylvania — to plot a path to deny Goldwater the nomination he and his conservative insurgents had won.

Sen. Barry Goldwater had just defeated Gov. Nelson Rockefeller in the final and decisive winner-take-all primary in California.

As the story is told, Stu Spencer, Rocky’s man in California, had come to his candidate and said, “Governor, I think it’s time to call in the Eastern establishment.”

To which Rocky replied, “You’re looking at it, buddy. I’m all that’s left!” The governors, and Goldwater himself, suspected Nixon was pushing Romney onto the tracks to derail his bandwagon. And, presumably, after Romney had been run over, the convention, to heal the bleeding wound, would turn to a centrist compromise candidate — Nixon.

“Nixon is sounding more and more like Harold Stassen every day,” said Goldwater. Nixon pivoted swiftly to repair the damage, offered to introduce Goldwater to the convention, did so in a brilliant speech, then campaigned harder for Mr. Conservative than did Barry himself.

For many years conservative Americans were happy to remain “the silent majority,” and allow the body politic find its own way. I think this was mostly the result of a feeling among most Americans that either party would do an equally good job. After all, we are all Americans, right? Well, people who thought this were sadly mistaken for these two reasons: first, the Democratic Party has been the Communist Party since the presidency of Woodrow Wilson. (Note: It could have gone this way under Theodore Roosevelt —and might have were it not for Taft), and second, the American voter has not been intelligent enough to entrust with something so precious as liberty. This is what the party machines believe and, unhappily, they are right about that—and so the party machines have not assumed the role as guardians of the will of the people and the people sit happily on the sidelines with dumb expressions on their faces. The train wreck has already happened in America and few even realize it. We. Are. Screwed.

I apologize for the length of this comment …

No apology please. Well said and articulated the sad state of affairs that are upon us. The fact that the playbook continues in place without anyone connecting the dots nor cares is a stunner. And for what we do, we are identified as tin foil conspiracists. Right wingers who are a threat to America. Rather, we are a threat to the status quo.

I remember the Goldwater thing quite well. I was only 19 at the time and couldn’t vote, but I was for Goldwater and couldn’t believe what happened.

It is absolutely going to happen again, except this time I don’t think people will put up with it. There may be blood in the streets…

The wild thing about it is now I will feel I need to vote for Trump if only to stop a brokered convention. Florida has lots of delegates with winner take all. Trump loses it we could be in for anarchy.Gee, and I couldn’t make up my mind.

I have until the 8th to make my decision. I don’t think we’ll be able to stop a brokered convention unless Rubio gets out. It doesn’t appear he has plans to do that. The only other possibility is Cruz stepping down in exchange for the VP slot with Trump.

It looks like Mitt still has Presidential aspirations and is hoping to emerge from a brokered convention as the nominee.

The Romney doesn’t fall far from the tree. Only difference is papa bear withdrew from the 68 race when his goofy behavior got the best of him. He claimed that on a junket to Korea or a Viet Nam, I can’t recall which. He had been brainwashed. Look it up.
