Gun violence dropped significantly, gun ownership rises

Feel good story of the day. While the call for gun control drums are beating once again, this factoid gets buried in the equation. Lock and load. With this President, that is all we have or will have as the barbarians reach our shores.

The chart above was inspired by a similar one featured by in his recent Wonkblog post titled “We’ve had a massive decline in gun violence in the United States. Here’s why.” In contrast to the widely embraced narrative, perpetuated by liberal politicians and the media, that gun violence in America is getting worse all the time, the data reveal that the exact opposite is true. According to data retrieved from the Centers for Disease Control, there were 7 firearm-related homicides for every 100,000 Americans in 1993 (see light blue line in chart). By 2013 (most recent year available), the gun homicide rate had fallen by nearly 50% to only 3.6 homicides per 100,000 population.

But there’s another possible reason for the decline in gun violence overlooked by Ehrenfreund – the significant increase in gun ownership, illustrated above by the dark blue line in the chart. Based on data from a 2012 Congressional Research Service (CRS) report (and additional data from another Wonkblog article “There are now more guns than people in the United States“), the number of privately owned firearms in US increased from about185 million in 1993 to 357 million in 2013. Adjusted for the US population, the number of guns per American increased from 0.93 per person in 1993 to 1.45 in 2013, which is a 56% increase in gun ownership that occurred during the same period when gun violence decreased by 49%. Of course, that significant correlation doesn’t necessarily imply causation, but it’s logical to believe that those two trends are related. After all, armed citizens frequently prevent crimes from happening, including gun-related homicides, see hundreds of examples here of law-abiding gun owners defending themselves and their families and homes.

LOL! Man, you cons are dumb. There have been fewer and fewer owners of guns for generations now. Fewer people just “own” (or sell to whoever they please) more guns. Most all crime rates, along with all sorts of other indicators, began to drop precipitously exactly one generation removed from RvW. It’s no coincidence. There is no scientific evidence to suggest guns make you safer, and instead show your likelihood of being shot rise by about 400%. So, as usual, you guys are morons.

Of course the left will ignore this because it doesn’t fit the narrative or the agenda, never let the facts get in the way of a good argument…

An enlightening statistic would be separating gun violence by legal gunowners from gun violence committed by illegal gun owners. Surely legal gunowners are not.cruising the streets of Chitown, Baltimore, NYC etc on the weekends hunting down the unemployed yuts and gunning them down. And surely legal gunowners are not into driveby shootings of five year olds and other assorted innocent bystanders. Now that would prove to be an interesting statistic for Barry Hussain Mohammed Bin Obama, President Valjar and Atty General Loretta Lynch to chew on with their mess a jowls and black eyed peas.

Excellent point. Take out Black crime an it would be almost nil is my hunch. Facts are stubborn things aren’t they.

Exactly right, peter….it’s almost freakish that stat hasn’t been studied…

We need to also get more Americans to notice that it’s usually in the tightest gun-controlled states that murders are taking place…like California, Colorado and Illinois!

It still sticks in my craw SO badly that Obama’s never addressed black on black crime in Chicago alone……..
but let a white cop shoot someone, even in self defense, and it’s all hell to pay…….
