Obama spying on consumers, leaving massive security breaches

After watching the love fest with Hillary last night, reading the headlines of how wonderful the debate was, I could find nothing of note to post on the topic. But this little number, the gathering of our financial data, is not worth a mention by the MSM? A question about this could not be asked of the candidates? Where is the GOP? There is no one willing to take this on in our congress? No doubt this info will end up in the Utah spy center. The GOP should have a cake walk to the Presidency. Why do I think they will be willing to shoot themselves in the foot? Here we go:

Privacy: The most powerful unaccountable agency in Washington is mining and amassing all your personal financial data. While that’s bad enough, it also isn’t adequately protecting them from hackers and identity thieves.

A just-released inspector general report found that the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, is conducting a massive consumer data-mining operation without the security safeguards to protect the sensitive data from cyberattacks.

The CFPB is collecting and stockpiling more than 600 million credit card accounts, along with personal data from millions of mortgage loans, but “has not yet fully implemented a number of privacy control steps and information security practices,” warned CFPB Inspector General Mark Bialek in a 10-page memo to CFPB Director Richard Cordray.

More alarming, the agency is sharing the massive databases with outside contractors and storing sensitive private information on unsecured clouds, making the data extra vulnerable to cyberattacks “from outside governments and organized groups.” More at IBD

I remember reading at some point last year that the government can actually track our purchases when we pay with a debit card and all this info is being collected. It might be time to use the ATM to get cash and to pay at the store with cash. While this will not stop them from gathering our financial information at least they won’t have access to what we are purchasing…or who knows maybe they still will. The fact that nobody seems to think this is a big deal is scary and anyone who defends this by saying they have nothing to hide is missing the point!

Hi Steve, good suggestion. Paying with cash whenever possible – and avoiding all reward cards and programs – are just common sense self-protection.

They can look at anything – I have nothing to fear is a self-evident defense mechanism at best. Usually the person saying this will not be interested in much reality apart from the official left and right positions. At least that’s been my subjective experience.

I agree with both of you. The fact that so many could care less miss the point entirely. I had read earlier that they are particularly tracking preppers.

Barter. No serial numbers. As my wife and I age I’m finding unusual products in the fridge. Just today something called Major Grey’s Chutney. Never seen it before. Taking it to Hardee’s in the morning to see if I can swap for a sausage and egg biscuit. lol

    Yes, all true.

It is already far too late to bemoan our loss of financial privacy. This started in earnest under Bush JR. We can no longer even “opt out” from most financial sharing.

The framework is almost all in place for a complete surveillance society. “Freedom” is slavery has never been more possible.

What I wonder is how we will know when freedom is completely gone. Will the new reality seem like things are now, only just a little more so?

The Germans under Hitler thought they were free.
