Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama were against gay marriage before they were for it. The interesting point is that both clearly believed that a Constitutional amendment would be required to make it legal. No fear. The Supremes have now become the arbiter of social justice. Whether one is for or against gay marriage, the Supremes now have ripped the Constitution to shreds the last two days.
All of the justices had a similar concern, though: The decision substitutes the views of five unelected justices for the democratic process, much as Roe v. Wade did for abortion in 1973.
“If a bare majority of justices can invent a new right and impose that right on the rest of the country, the only real limit on what future majorities will be able to do is their own sense of what those with political power and cultural influence are willing to tolerate,” Justice Alito wrote in his dissent.
He concluded, “All Americans, whatever their thinking on that issue, should worry about what the majority’s claim of power portends.”
Recall the halcyon days of yesteryear? Just a few short years ago? Life seemed so much simpler.
At the Saddleback Civil Forum, Barack Obama addressed his definition of marriage.
While he said he believes that marriage is a union between a man and a woman, he also said that he would not support a Constitutional definition of marriage as so.
Now we have Hillary.
“I believe marriage is not just a bond but a sacred bond between a man and a woman. I have had occasion in my life to defend marriage, to stand up for marriage, to believe in the hard work and challenge of marriage. So I take umbrage at anyone who might suggest that those of us who worry about amending the Constitution are less committed to the sanctity of marriage, or to the fundamental bedrock principle that it exists between a man and a woman, going back into the midst of history as one of the founding, foundational institutions of history and humanity and civilization, and that its primary, principal role during those millennia has been the raising and socializing of children for the society into which they are to become adults.”

Yeah, but now they’re for it. You see? It’s like the Civil Rights Act. Back in the 60’s, Republicans generally supported it, but now they don’t. Hillary and Obama has progressed in their positions. You have not.

They are politicians, they change their opinions each time the wind blows….
However, our representatives aren’t elected to impose their will onto us, to decide what is best for us. They are elected to do what their constituents tell them to do. Instead of asking what their opinions, beliefs, views are, we should be basing our vote on how obedient they will be. Obedient first to the Constitution and then to only their constituents.
The People are using the wrong criteria when choosing a representative and we have gotten exactly who (whom?) we elected.

Yes, but not all politicians are elected representatives. That’s why I switched from politicians to representatives. Almost all of our elected officials are politicians, there are still a very few who aren’t. Or who haven’t revealed that they are. 😉

They are like motorcycle riders. There are two kinds. Those who have crashed and those who are going to crash. Alas, us along with them. I crashed mine years ago, lots of stitches, but survived. Gave it up.

Thanks. I loved riding. Be careful. I’ve observed so many times…cyclists riding just barely to the right of the center line toward oncoming traffic. Why is that? I always rode in the center of my lane. Just seemed like I had more time and space to avoid someone crossing that line towards me.

I asked a regular rider why he did that. He said because car tires create shallow grooves in the road. It’s easier for bikers to ride in those grooves – they pick the grooves of the left tires or right tires. I don’t know if that is why, it’s just what he told me. *shrug*

Thanks. And it is a reason, I didn’t know. Maybe they one day have self driving cycles that get in the groove all by themselves. Still got to deal with the oncoming line crosser. But I except his/her explanation. I was a lone rider, so never discussed it with a bunch of others. I see signs all the time watch for motorcycles. I do and watch that I don’t cross the center line. Also pulling out in traffic, there have been quite a few times that a cyclist was obscured just in that little post between door and windshield. I double check.
