SCOTUS says to hell with the constitution, Obamacare marches on

Thanks to all who expressed concern during my extended hiatus from blogging. After an enjoyable vacation and a respite from blogging, and a willingness to try and endure Windows 8 and wordpress, I bring this unthinkable story. But we already knew what was going to happen didn’t we? After having our hopes dashed in 2010 after winning back the House, the GOP managed to stick it to us one more time this past fall. Surely with the both the House and Senate in firm control we could make a dent in the Obama juggernaut. But no, the GOPers were more than willing to give the Dems all they wanted and more. Trade deal, no problem. And Obamacare? Word was out that if the Supremes should give Obamacare the heave ho, the GOP really had no alternative and the suggestion was to extend it until 2016. With good luck, the GOP should lose the Senate and the United States continued march into the abyss should continue unabated. Discouraged to say the least, I shall make another attempt to rise to the occasion and scribble down one person’s view of a historical record as did Josephus during the Roman decline.

“Congress passed the Affordable Care Act to improve health insurance markets, not to destroy them,” Roberts wrote in the majority opinion. “If at all possible, we must interpret the Act in a way that is consistent with the former, and avoids the latter.”

READ: John Roberts’ big moment: Will he anger conservatives again?

He was joined by Justice Anthony Kennedy — who is often the Court’s swing vote — and the four liberal justices. Justice Antonin Scalia wrote the dissent, joined by Justices Clarence Thomas and Samuel Alito.

So glad you are back, I was worried about you! This is disgusting even though it was expected! What bothers me most is the Roberts basically admitted the law as written only applies to state exchanges but ruled its intent was otherwise, he rewrote the law again!

Never too old to learn you know. I learned a new phrase today…”heaven forfend.”
Not tooth and nail, but tongue in cheek. Well Johnrobertskhan either has his tongue in someone’s cheek or someone’s something else in his. And they know. Not a new idea, lots of comments here there and yonder saying similar such. So just adding my opinion which I got like everybody else and so far still able to voice it. 🙂

The fix has been in since 2008. The smaller insurance companies will be regulated out of business and into the dustbin leaving maybe five giant insurers who will then get congress to pass laws guaranteeing profit margins for these companies that will ultimately be tax payer funded; this rather than collapse the system entirely. the gov’t will work hand in hand along with the insurers and banks to crush the middle class. Hey Bunker, for this you came back from vacation?

Hey, I got early retirement because of Obamacare. I rose to the bait. Less spoken is the collapse of our hospital system. Mega systems are being created out of the bankrupt ones, then ultimately government ownership of the Mega systems after they do them in with pittance reimbursement.

My doctor is not a hospitalist, but his group is affiliated some way with a local hospital we’ve used since our children were born starting in ’83.
I had just received a letter from the group that the contract with Florida Blue would expire 6/30 and I would be paying higher fees.
Funny that at 12:43 pm today we have story in local paper that contract was approved between the parties and services would continue. Hummm…..?
4 million Floridians have FL Blue. I don’t know how subsidies fit in here, but there must be a connection.

Thanks Unit for the nice welcome back and your concern. What with computer problems and all of the bad news, it was a break that was badly needed.

I was in the audience of a live videotaping of a weekly episode in November, 1977, along with my cousin Dave. Julie Kotter, Marcia Strassman, was pretty hot back then as I recall. This was a show one waited for each week. Unfortunately that kind of innocence is lost forever.
