Samantha Power doesn’t object, Iran gets seat on UN Women’s Rights body

Without objection from the Obama administration, Iran gets a seat on the UN’s women’s rights body.
CNS News reported:

The Obama administration on Wednesday criticized Iran’s election to the U.N.’s Commission on the Status of Women (CSW) – but neither the U.S. nor any other delegation objected when given the opportunity to do so, thus allowing Iran to get the seat “by acclamation.”

Iran will now serve on the CSW, a body dealing with gender equality and the advancement of women, for another four-year term, having already been a member since 2011.

U.S. Ambassador to the U.N. Samantha Power took to Twitter to express her views: “Yet again Iran unopposed & was ‘elected’ to Commission on Status of Women. Given record on women’s & human rights, this is an outrage.”

But Richard Grenell, who served as spokesman for four U.S. ambassadors to the U.N. during the George W. Bush administration and is a close observer of the world body, was unimpressed with her reaction.

“Ambassador Power can tweet her outrage after the fact all she wants,” he said. “She should have been in the room for the vote and demanded a secret ballot rather than allow an automatic acclamation by her silence.”

Once again, Samantha Power is missing in action, or was she? Recall how  Muslims treat Egyptian Women.

Egyptian Women and the Practice of Female Genital Mutilation?

The BBC reported in 2007 that:

“Egypt’s first lady, Susanne Mubarak, has spoken out strongly against female circumcision, saying that it is a flagrant example of continued physical and psychological violence against children which must stop.” But Samantha Power, Susan Rice, and Hillary Clinton said Mubarak must go. The same for Gaddafi. Three women who brought us the new long war in Libya

A 2005 report by UNICEF suggested that 97% of Egyptian women between the ages of 15 and 49 who have never been married have undergone some form of FGM or circumcision. 6

An older meta-study on “female sexual castration” presented in 1989-MAR showed that five surveys conducted between 1977 and 1985 estimated that 80.5% of Egyptian women in Cairo and Alexandria had undergone FGM. 4

And in our Country? We have had our own brush with FGM. Only last Spring, the American Academy of Pediatrics supported a form of this in order to mollify the Muslims in our country. The hope was that this would reduce this more virulent form of  this “surgery”. Several months later, they were forced to retract the policy.

NEW YORK, May 5 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ — International human rights organization Equality Now is stunned by a new policy statement issued by the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP), which essentially promotes female genital mutilation (FGM) and advocates for “federal and state laws [to] enable pediatricians to reach out to families by offering a ‘ritual nick’,” such as pricking or minor incisions of girls’ clitorises. The Policy Statement “Ritual Genital Cutting of Female Minors“, issued by the AAP on April 26, 2010, is a significant set-back to the Academy’s own prior statements on the issue of FGM and is antithetical to decades of noteworthy advancement across Africa and around the world in combating this human rights violation against women and girls. PR Newswire and Big Gornment for more information.

The trouble with the left is that they divide their political ideology into two categories: theoretical and practical. Theoretically, they are against female genital mutilation, adverse pay polices, and mistreatment. Practically, they are not. Hence Samantha Power’s actions on this issue at the United Nations. Where was Samantha Power indeed, where was NOW? Where were the feminists who hold that the female is supreme? Theory and practice, that is why the left is comfortable with contradictions. If not, they would be driven crazy by them.

Can they be that ignorant of their hypocrisy? Hard to believe.

  4. Steve Dennis Says:

To say this is a joke is an understatement! Of course, the UN will probably go after the US for not paying women as much as men all the while doing nothing to stop the way women are treated in the Middle East.
