Edward Snowden: The great spy hoax of the century?

Oh the outrage. The world is in a tizzy over the supposed leak of “Top Secret” information. But the story never added up. From the beginning. First, other than a few screen shots he provided, almost all of this information has been out in the blogosphere for well over a year. The Guardian says there is more to come. We shall see. If more to come was it from him? We have a guy who never got it together. High School drop out, military failure, three months on the job. William Binney, one of the original whistle-blowers, worked for the NSA for over thirty years before he resigned more than ten years ago over this very same story. Exactly the same information. For the Binney interview and the development of the Utah spy Center: NSA Utah spy center holds ribbon cutting ceremony-videos Two posts today.

Hot Air  Even the intel guys can’t figure it out:

Among the questions is how a contract employee at a distant NSA satellite office was able to obtain a copy of an order from the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court, a highly classified document that would presumably be sealed from most employees and of little use to someone in his position.

A former senior NSA official said that the number of agency officials with access to such court orders is “maybe 30 or maybe 40. Not large numbers.”…

Here is NSA Gov Site with their spin on the Spy Center.

And the girl friend?   From the WH Dossier   Snowden Left Beautiful Girlfriend in the Lurch

Yes, that’s Lindsay Mills, the gal Ed Snowden ditched so he could become the hero of telephone records. Apparently she’s a ballet trained, pole dancing fountain of pulchritude who blogs about her life at “L’s Journey,” which has either been overwhelmed by traffic or taken down.

Jim Hoft at Gateway Pundit got a glimpse of the website before it went off-line, finding the latest post in which she says she’s now “without a compass.”

I gather Snowden took the compass so he could find his way to Hong Kong. (Alert: sound is very loud when playing clip)

Lindsay Mills

The Guardian on Monday shares more about the young man who it says was behind last week’s leaks concerning National Security Agency programs that sweep up data on phone calls and Internet activity. It paints a portrait of a mediocre student with a GED degree who joined the Army in 2003, but was discharged after breaking his legs in a training accident. Snowden says he later wound up working with the CIA and then a contractor because he’s skilled at computer programming.

The Washington Post, which along with the Guardian published a report last week based on documents allegedly leaked by Snowden, adds that:

“With wire glasses, short, dark hair and a thin goatee, he maintains an academic look. Yet he never completed his coursework at a community college in Maryland, only later obtaining his GED — an unusually light education for someone who would advance in the intelligence ranks.

[…] While everyone has had their knickers in a knot over Snowden and his revelations, William Binney, a former NSA analyst told us what has been going down years ago. That is why I never bought the story of Snowden as being the operative. I covered this in the post Edward Snowden – the great spy hoax of the century? . […]

Has it ever crossed your minds that maybe this is intentionally leaked by the government and media to test the public’s reaction to what they have been doing. I mean the government just lays the proof of there wrongdoings right in front of us and still we do nothing. No major public outcry of any kind. The fact is we are scared and content with being scared. I hate it but corruption is smacking us right in the face and yet we ignore it. We go to work, we get paid, we go home and watch the voice or American Idol and repeat. I may be just paranoid but its possible there just testing us to see what they can get away with. And apparently thats alot……

You raise some interesting points. Nothing is as it seems these days. All that is out there makes no sense, this was written June 11, when many felt he was a super hero.

The plot thickens: ‘A NEW NAME’
Halfway through 10th grade, during the 1998-1999 school year, Snowden dropped out of Arundel High School, where he had made little impression. Neither the principal nor teachers who taught his favorite subjects remember him. Several classmates racked their memories last week and came up empty. Source: Fiscal Times.

I really do believe he does exist BUT he has made such little impact on the people around him, all of his life, that now he is getting even. From a total loser who no one remembers to one of the most famous people in the world tight now.

Sure does not add up, and now this fine fellow is flying over Russia… Did he land yet? Time for him to drop off a copy of his thumb drive.

I hope he stays in Russia for awhile. He will then become a pawn in some future “swap”. The US will just capture some Russian spy and trade him for Snowden.

With a GED I joined the Navy in 1985 and volunteered for Submarine Duty. I trained as a Torpedomans’ Mate. I had access and Technical knowledge of the MK 48 Torpedo Mod 5, The Mk 45 Nuke Depth Charge, Tomahawk UGM 109-A Cruise Missile (that’s the Tactical Nuke One) and the Harpoon Anti-Ship Missile. Whenever I worked on the big ones or its tech manuals we had a three man rule…all with tech knowledge, two working on the weapons and the third watching…everybody’s armed with a side arm. Then everything is checked and locked back in the safe. That was 30 years ago. I’m sure the NSA has a bit more elaborate security protocols than that. And just being on board a Nuclear Submarine I held a Top Secret Clearance with the “Need to Know Moniker”. That means since the John Walker spy scandal; and for all you yougins’ who don’t know who that scumbag is, worked as a Radio Crypto Tech for the US Navy and a contractor when he retired, sold the soviets secrets about our communication gear, submarine routes under the ice and may have been responsible for passing the radio codes to the soviets that enabled them to track and sink the USS Scorpion (SSN 589) in may 1968 after recovering crypto Gear from the USS Pablo in January 1968 that was seized and boarded by the North Korean Navy in International waters. Anyway “need to know” even if you have the clearance means if you don’t have a specific need to know about a certain project you don’t get to work on it, see it or anything else. Even if you hold the proper security clearance. I doubt this one guy had the need to know about several “Code Word-Top Secret; Need to Know-Use Once and Destroy” programs that crossed so many genres highly unlikely. Unless he was the Head of the NSA, the CIA or who ever. I don’t think he was any of those. this guy sounds like a low to mid level contract programmer that worked on some aspects of a few of these programs, burned some copies, took a few pictures, Nexus’s a bunch of stories and put them together to make himself seem more important for that book/movie deal that’s coming down the road, It’s been 28 years since The Falcon and the Snowman was released as a major motion picture and it’s time for a film about NSA “SPY” that is filled with so much self righteous indignation he must inform the world of what the evil USA is doing.
Granted, the guy probably knows some secrets, but not what’s being played up. After the Chinese torture him to see what he knows or doesn’t know, I wonder if he’ll think he made a mistake….after the water board him for the twelfth time with jumper cables on his nipples’!

    Cheers!

I think I may have stumbled on to something. This may be more about “family dynamics” than the NSA or China. His father, Lonnie, was a warrant officer for the U.S. Coast Guard, since retired. His mother, Elizabeth, who goes by Wendy, went to work for the U.S. District Court in Maryland in 1998 and is now its chief deputy of administration and information technology. An older sister, Jessica, is a lawyer working as a research associate for the Federal Judicial Center in Washington. And what about Edward…..a failure in high school, a failure in the Army and a failure in college. A REAL BLACK SHEEP. He was going to teach his whole family a lesson! This may also explain how he could get those security clearances…..his whole friggin family had them to some extent. Remember the “Falcon and the Snowman”, Boyce’s father was an FBI agent! Snowden is getting back at his family!

Doesn’t anyone this this is weird. He CLAIMS he was in the Army 1 year. The Army says no record of him ever reporting for duty. Ok, some will say the Army is lying. BUT if you were in the Army for a year you would of come in contact with hundreds of other grunts, DI’s, Classroom instructors, medical, etc. VERY STRANGE, no one has come forward saying, “I remember him”.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Before anyone makes a decision on whether Snowden is a traitor or a hero I would STRONGLY suggest you READ the transcript of his interview. Read it, not just listen. I have many times over the last several hours. A quote, “I, sitting at my desk, certainly had the authorities to wiretap anyone, from you or your accountant, to a federal judge or even the president, if I had a personal e-mail.” This is way above my pay grade so I address this to you computer geeks. I didn’t know you WIRETAPPED email? I thought you, hack into (Ok), packet sniffing (OK), install a rootkit (ok), intercept (ok). I have never heard the term wiretap associated with emails before. Anyone else think it sounds legit? It does make you wonder just how much of an IT geek he really is – since most of those types I’ve known are very picky about their terminology. READ THE TRANSCRIPT! Something not right with this boy.

Not sure what to think at this point. The dots just don’t connect for me. I am trying to find the Biden interview just shown on fox that was done back in 2006 or so. Biden said the same thing. The gov was collecting all this info on everyone.
