Women in combat will have to register for the draft?

Panetta moves to permit women in combat, so the headline reads.

Since there is nothing that the obama administration does without some form of his agenda being moved forward, I puzzled why Panetta decided to make this his swan song move as he sailed out the door. No doubt to take a lucrative position as a lobbyist. Setting aside the arguments regarding the negatives of permitting this as opposed to the political opportunism, the answer may be more simple then we think. Of course, once the equality is made, conscription is possible for both sexes. Great move Obama. Thinking ahead, way far ahead on this one.

Now that the Pentagon is lifting its ban on women in combat, does this mean that women could potentially be drafted, too?

And as a practical matter: When women turn 18, will they now need to register, as men do, so that they can be conscripted in the event of a World War III, or any military emergency where the US government decides it needs troops quickly?

It’s a thorny question, raising what may be a difficult prospect societally. But the legal implications are obvious, analysts argue.

“The answer to that question is clearly yes,” says Anne Coughlin, a law professor at the University of Virginia School of Law in Charlottesville. “The legal argument is clear: If it comes to that kind of wrenching emergency where we have to press young people into service, there is no legal justification for saying that men alone need to shoulder that burden.”

The wars of the past decade in Iraq and Afghanistan have been fought by an all-volunteer force, since the US military discontinued the draft in 1973. Males between the ages of 18 and 25, however, are still required to register for the Selective Service. More at News Yahoo

You really make it seem really easy along with your presentation however I in finding
this topic to be really something that I think I might by no means understand.
It sort of feels too complex and extremely extensive for me.

My liberal neighbor, an Obama supporter, has three granddaughters. My neighbor is also a pacifist.

I wonder what my neighbor thinks of Obama now!

As long as they don’t lower the standards I really don’t have a problem with it, but I think we know they will. As for the draft I would say they should have to register, but what about those women who are already draft age eligible? Should they have to rhetroactively register as well?

You guys are missing the point. Obama wants a weaker American military. Women are the weaker sex. (I’ll be shot for that, I’m sure.) Also, let’s kill off as many childbearing age women as possible. That’ll fix the population problem, no doubt.
There is so much wrong with this it’s hard to know where to start…but then, isn’t that the characterization of everything this administration does?
This won’t end well, I guarantee it.

      What Cheryl said.

In addition, America likes to get itself into unwinnable brush-fire wars these days. Here’s a good way to make our conflicts even more difficult to fight: Show the American public the first wave of horribly disfigured sexually assaulted female soldiers coming back from the field. I know we’re all supposed to be dutiful feminists, but even the most ardent liberals will be repulsed by the sight of women coming home physically and psychologically broken.

Take it further. Let’s say it’s Republican president overseeing the next big international conflict. The MSM will gleefully display wounded female soldiers to undermine public support for the war. The fight would be over in a month.

I hate to make this a partisan thing, but the Left and the press (sorry for repeating myself) will make it that way very quickly. Best to be prepared for the inevitable Alinskyite tactic.

You both are on point. I still think he wants everyone to do ” service”. Men and women. It is in his DNA. Mandatory registration will be the first order of business.

I have mixed feelings on this one Bunkerville. On the one hand if the woman’s a mother I don’t think they should be in combat but if the woman is free from the responsibility of motherhood maybe she should be allowed in combat. Maybe this would prevent some out of wedlock pregnancies?

If a woman is single without kids I don’t care what happens to her or what she does. These moms who go off and leave their kids with who knows who is troublesome to me. Not sure about the pregnancy bit! Might be a stretch.
