Chuck Schumer on1st Amendment ‘No amendment is absolute’

During a debate on the Senate floor July 16, 2012, Chucky makes remarks about the DISCLOSE Act, legislation that would circumvent and restrict the First Amendment. Of course, he would not be making these comments if his wish comes true. The Blaze has a good breakdown and analysis of what he posits, but I think you have the hang of it. Freedom for thee, but not so much for me. The Progressives are now out and about with what would have been totally unheard of just a generation ago. The First Amendment was considered sacrosanct. The very essence of our Republic. For many of us, these good old days are becoming a distant memory. The next generation will not have even that if the Obama plan comes to fruition. Note his rightous tone as he comes to take away our freedom.

Here‘s the transcript of Schumer’s remarks, from RealClearPolitics:

SEN. Chuck Schumer (D-NY) on the DISCLOSE Act: “I believe there ought to be limits because the First Amendment is not absolute. No amendment is absolute. You can’t scream ‘fire’ falsely in a crowded theater. We have libel laws. We have anti-pornography laws. All of those are limits on the First Amendment. Well, what could be more important than the wellspring of our democracy? And certain limits on First Amendment rights that if left unfettered, destroy the equality — any semblance of equality in our democracy — of course would be allowed by the Constitution.”

“And the new theorists on the Supreme Court who don’t believe that, I am not sure where their motivation comes from, but they are just so wrong. They are just so wrong.”

What Chuck seems to forget is the fact that our rights are not given to us by the government, the government is charged with protecting our rights. Sadly too many of our elected “representatives” feel as if our rights come from them and because of this they feel as if they can regulate our rights. Chuck doesn’t seem to know what the word inalienable means.

Someone should explain to Chucky that Americans are free to enjoy all of their unalienable rights so long as they do so without infringing on other people’s rights. The man is an idiot but he is in good company in Washington.

I saw this clip on tv the other day and was astounded.( And someone needs to tell me why I keep being astounded by these people.) They keep talking about restricting our rights as if it’s a good thing for us. Unfortunately, they have convinced a lot of people that it is a good thing.
As for tthe SC – you’re also right. I think that is their goal, to undermine the
respect by the people. Although, I’ll tell ya something, John Roberts really did disappoint me.

The man is positively reptilian. One more reason to give to the Republican Senate Campaign. Dangerous people like him need to be condemned to the minority

Apparently the latest scheme is to attack the Supreme Court and start to inculcate resentment toward them by the public.
