Obama signs Executive Order empowering Kill Switch over the Internet

Not much excitement about this apparently. So what he cannot do by Congressional action, he does by fiat. The interesting part is that his Executive Order was posted in the Federal Register and gives 30 days for responses. Presidential powers over the Internet and telecommunications were laid out in a U.S. Senate bill in 2009, which proposed handing the White House the power to disconnect private-sector computers from the Internet. But that legislation was not included in the Cybersecurity Act of 2012 earlier this year. I would ask, why must Janet cut off private networks? I caught some discussion of this, and the rationale was that  “misinformation” may need to be curtailed. Where did I hear that before? Anyone still wondering where we are headed with this?

President Obama signed an executive order this week that could give him control over the web in times of emergency.

According to The Verge, critics of the order are concerned with Section 5.2, which is a lengthy part outlining how telecommunications and the Internet are controlled. It states that the Secretary of Homeland Security will “oversee the development, testing, implementation, and sustainment” of national security and emergency preparedness measures on all systems, including private “non-military communications networks.” According to The Verge, critics say this gives Obama the on/off switch to the Web.

The order, known as the, “Assignment of National Security and Emergency Preparedness Communications Functions,” exists to hand over full control of communications and the internet to certain government authorities in times of natural disaster and security emergencies.

The wording for the executive order is of course lengthy and uses politician language, but the part worth pointing out is in section 5.2.It is in this section that the order states that Homeland Security will be able to monitor and control all non-military forms of communications in times of extreme measures, which is essentially giving the White House the on/off switch to the internet, according to some critics.

You can read more about the executive order, which still has 30 days before it becomes a law, over at CNET and The Verge. If you want to check out the order in its entirety, go to the White House press page. From the Examiner

My mind cannot wrap around this stuff … Is there no recourse? No legal response to the repeated disregard for the US CONSTITUTION??? have we, in fact, become a society governed by men rather than Laws? Heaven help us, we know not what we do!

This mentions DISINFORMATION being disseminated Via the Internet. The Democrat Party and the Obama Regime are the only ones disseminating Disinformation, not only on the internet, but also daily on the MSM.

The only misinformation is coming from the Obama WH and reelection team. Republicans are cowards. Obama is the wannabe dictator and Republicans are allowing him to seize power and control. This is disturbing… Yet one more reason Obama MUST be voted out of office.

I haven’t heard Romney say vowing to repeal all of these Obama executive orders, have you?

Control misinformation? I guess we know who will decide what is misinformation, don’t we? This is exactly the language Hugo Chavez used. We are gpoing in the same direction.

Executive orders were supposed to be used in extreme circumstances, when you couldn’t get Congress together in the horse and buggy days, and there were troops landing on the beach.

Since the banksters have been running our government since (what? 1898?), you see an exponential rise in EOs ever since. Aren’t we still in a state of emergency from 1933 or something from FDR’s executive order? Remember the bankster’s definition of security means keeping their dirty work secret from the public. Anything that risks that is a “security risk” for them because they’re sitting atop the greatest transfer of wealth and power in history. That’s a lot of motive to do whatever it takes to keep it.

Gee, all they need is some flimsy justification, and it’s bye-bye pesky conservative bloggers? Isn’t that convenient?

I have always questioned the constitutionality of executive orders when instead of enforcing established law they write new law. This is exactly what this executive order does in this case and is therefore unconstitutional and non-enforceable. Basically if I were these private internet companies I would tell the President to sit on his hands in spin. He has no legal authority to force his will or his office’s will on them. The congress legislates, the executive carries out those laws. More people need to embrace this mindset.

Even if we get it to court it will be long past the damage. He will disregard any court ruliing anyway. He has been shutting down websites right along, so I believe he can do it, with or without private company approvals

I agree with John. Now, will anyone with clout or standing stand up and challenge this in a court of law?

Remember the crazy guy who had millions of Jews and other folks murdered on his EO’s? All while everyone sat with their heads up their arske.
Now obama might not be able to get away with this but he can cause the economic downfall of a weak nation. He may also rejoice in fulfilling his fathers dream.

This one slipped by didn’t it? It is amazing how much of Obama’s agenda he has pushed through with the EO and it is even more amazing that Republicans haven’t stood up in protest of these actions, where are they? Barack Obama is getting everything he wants and he is doing it on his own without the Congress and there is no telling where this will stop. What’s next?

Ask why obama has been allowed to lie about so many issues and get away with it. Why he offered a fraudulent S/S card as some form of proof of
natural birth/citizenship but hasn’t been arrested for any crime. Here is a person of question who does what he wants, waste’s our money as if it
were water flowing and who has created many Czars who havn’t a clue as to what their job is. obama is not the man to run this failing nation.
He is not educated enough to be “the Man.” obama MUST be voted OUT of offive in November 2012.
hasn’t a decent brain cell in his head that is decent.
