Catholic Dolan: Obama lied to me over HHS Mandate

Beside the obvious fact that Dolan was gassed by Obama over the new HHS mandate, we get a glimpse into the future and how what and when we will receive specific services under Obamacare. How many others make the trek to the Oval Office and get their “dispensations”? Which drug company, which drugs, which technology?  My hunch? Obama thought he could make a deal with Dolan to deliver the  Catholic votes. Apparently, Dolan does not play. He will not sell out his beliefs to the great one. That must be a schock. Someone not for sale? This of course, is pure speculation on my part.

Cardinal-designate Timothy Dolan, head of the Archdiocese of New York, has now publicly criticized the Obama administration’s new HHS mandate. Specifically, he has stated that the President Obama betrayed a commitment made to him weeks ago in a personal meeting. CBS reports:

Dolan said he met with the president weeks ago in the Oval Office to talk about the law. Dolan said the president gave his promise the provision would go away, but it hasn’t. “It seems to be at odds with very sincere assurances that he gave me, that he wanted to continue to work with the church in these endeavors and views and projects he shared a passionate interest in, so I can’t figure it out,” Dolan said.

“When I left the Oval Office, where I was very grateful for his invitation to be there, I left with high hopes. That nothing his administration would do would impede the good work that he admitted and acknowledged in the church,” Dolan said. “And I’m afraid I don’t have those sentiments of hope now.

This is just another attempt at over-reach. This time it blew-up in Obama’s face. The Church should stay out of politics, IMO.

Silverfiddle is correct. This is not about contraception. There are plenty of places that women are able to get free contraception. This is about religious liberty and the Obama administration trampling on our constitutional rights. Now, the administration wants to “compromise”. How do you compromise on religious liberty? They are not to be trusted.

You would have thought we would have learned about the dangers of government dictating to religions from Germany’s antics with the Jews in the 30’s.

According to Drudge, he is going to back down this afternoon. But what happens when he wants to kill off the seniors? Will there be the same outrage. Of course he is not going to literally go out and shoot the seniors, no just deprive them of treatments and care.

The only thing the Catholic hierarchy is concerned about is the fact that contraception causes less potential *sexual partners* for the pervs… Uh, sorry, I meant to say Priests…

The same percentage of other ministers from other denominations have committed this horrible act, and committed sin. The priests who committed these horrendous acts specifically undermined the Church’s teachings so they acting contrary to Church teaching and unfortunately the priests or bishops relied on secular therapists who claimed that they could be healed, and that is why they were moved from parish to parish. Never trust a dang secularist. Obviously, we know more about pedophilia and other forms of sexual conduct now, like they can’t be cured. Most, if not all, were progressives who committed these vile, horrendous acts against children.

“From 1950 to 2002, 4,392 Catholic priests — about 4 percent — were accused of molesting 10,667 minors. There are no comparable studies of other groups, researchers said, so no one knows if 4 percent is lower or higher than in the general population.”

There have been studies done or research into other Christian denominations.

But will the church learn its lesson about getting in bed with big government? Instead of cutting deals, will it now loudly stand up for the rights of all to be free from government tangled bureaucratic web?

This is not about religion, it is about the federal government bursting its constitutional bounds and going rogue, running roughshod over our personal liberties. What gives the federal government the right to dictate health insurance plans? Where in the constitution does it say it can do that?

That is what we need to be asking.

You speak to the larger issue, which is so true. But at least we have on record the march to the oval office for favors by the Church no less. Why should he or anyone else be promised anything? Excellent comment as always SF.
