NASA names rocket going to Mars after Egyptian

What more is there to say? Nothing.

From Maggies Notebook:

What is with this government?  Every day there is another slur on American Culture, American Values. This time the agency is NASA.  Instead of naming a new rocket after an American Hero or a victim of the 9/11 attacks, they have decided to name the rocket after an Egyptian xxxxx Bimbo Woman killed in the riots.

The United States space agency NASA has okayed the naming of one of its spaceships after a young Egyptian woman killed in late January during an anti-goverment protest, according to Egyptian daily Al-Masry-al-Youm.

The paper quoted Essam Mohamed Haji, a young researcher at NASA as saying on Thursday he had received approval to put the young woman Sally Zahran’s name on a spaceship heading for Mars.

Zahran, a 23 English graduated and translator died after she was beaten about the head on 28 January with a truncheons during clashes with security forces in in the Upper Egyptian governorate of Sohag. Anti-government protesters claim her killers were thugs in the pay of police.

“This is the least we could provide to Egyptian youth and revolutionaries. This step represents transferring the dreams of Egyptian youth from a small stretch of earth to the enormous expanse of space,” said Haji was cited as telling Al-Masri Al-Youm by phone from California.

CPAC, Muslim Leadership and Pamela Geller, not so happy together

Pamela Geller of Atlas Shrugs did not have such a happy time at CPAC. Wander over to her place for the Kerfuffle. I offer my support regarding the fox in the hen-house with parts of an earlier post. From Atlas Shrugs:

There have been tensions between Geller and the leadership of CPAC, particularly American Conservative Union board member Grover Norquist, the anti-tax activist. Norquist has been a target of Geller and her cohort for years because of his friendly ties to Muslim leaders.

…..Perhaps Justin Elliot hasn’t read all of my pieces on the issue of Grover Norquist and Suhail Khan. David Horowitz gives  a crash course, Justin, in his remarks at CPAC, earlier today

“We are also faced at home and abroad with a mortal threat in political Islam,” conservative activist David Horowitz said in his address to the conference. “Political Islam is a totalitarian movement that seeks to impose Islamic law on the entire world through the seizure of states by stealth and electoral means where possible and by terror where necessary and sometimes by a combination of the two. There are hundreds of millions of believers in political Islam.”

Bunkerville: Back in October 2009, we posted a story how CAIR was trying to plant its Interns on Key Staffs. Now it only get worse. Fox this morning, has the names of the Terrorists who spoke or attended the weekly prayer services. No less than Anwar al-Awlaki.

An Al Qaeda leader, the head of a designated terror organization and a confessed jihadist-in-training are among a “Who’s Who” of controversial figures who have participated in weekly prayer sessions on Capitol Hill since the 2001 terror attacks, an investigation by FoxNews.com reveals.

Earlier we posted a story :  Cair tries to plant interns on key hill staffs

The Muslim activist organization CAIR was attempting to plant Muslim interns in the offices of congressmen who are on committees affecting US national security, a CAIR memo dated 13 January 2007 reveals.

The CAIR memo says, in part:“We will focus on influencing congressmen responsible for policy that directly impacts the American Muslim community. (For example, the judiciary, intelligence, and homeland security committees.) We will develop national initiatives such as a lobby day and placing Muslim interns in Congressional offices

.”The memo, revealed this morning in a press conference held by Reps. Sue Myrick (R-N.C.), John Shadegg, Paul Broun (R-Ga.) and Trent Franks (R-Ariz.) can be read in http://www.humanevents.com/article.php?id=33974
The Justice Department labeled CAIR an unindicted co-conspirator in the Holy Land Foundation case.  In November 2008, HLF and five of its leaders were convicted by a Dallas federal jury on charges of providing material support (more than $12 million) to Hamas, a designated foreign terrorist organization.

And it only gets worse: Guess who is in the Whitehouse:

President Barack Obama’s adviser on Muslim affairs, another Czar, Dalia Mogahed, has provoked controversy by appearing on a British television show hosted by a member of an extremist group to talk about Sharia Law….

FoxNews.com determined have attended the prayer services during the Clinton, George W. Bush and Obama administrations are:

— Anwar al-Awlaki, the notorious Al Qaeda cleric believed to be hiding in Yemen and the lone American on the U.S. government’s capture or kill list, who conducted a prayer service on Capitol Hill shortly after the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks.

— Randall “Ismail” Royer, a former communications associate for the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), who confessed in 2004 to receiving jihadist training in Pakistan. He is serving a 20-year prison term.

— Anwar Hajjaj, former president of Taibah International Aid Association, which was designated a terrorist organization by the U.S. and U.N. in 2004.

— Esam Omeish, the former president of the Muslim American Society, who was forced to resign from the Virginia Commission on Immigration in 2007 after calling for “the jihad way,” among other remarks.

— Salam Al-Marayati, president of the Muslim Public Affairs Council, who was forced to step down from a national terrorism committee post in 1999 for pro-terrorist comments. /

— Nihad Awad, CAIR executive director, who attended a Hamas meeting in Philadelphia in 1993 that was wiretapped by the FBI.

— Johari Abdul Malik, Dar al-Hijrah imam, who made statements in support of convicted and suspected terrorists who attended his mosque.

— Tariq Ramadan, a Muslim scholar banned from the U.S. for six years beginning in 2004 for his alleged ties and donations to terror groups. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton lifted Ramadan’s ban in January.

—  Abdulaziz Othman Al-Twaijri, the head of a division of the Organization of the Islamic Conference, considered a foreign agent by the U.S.

The Congressional Muslim Staff Association (CMSA) has held weekly Friday Jummah prayers for more than a decade, and guest preachers are often invited to lead the service. The group held prayers informally for about eight years before gaining official status in 2006 under the sponsorship of Rep. Keith Ellison, D-Minn., one of two Muslims currently serving in Congress. The second Muslim congressman, Rep. Andre Carson, D-Ind., joined as co-sponsor after he was elected in 2008. Fox News

New Wal-Mart might cause young people to steal, Commissioner says

Wal-Mart is trying to add store in the D.C. area. The bottom line to the uproar was merely the attempt to gas Wal-Mart into giving money to those with their hands out. What is stunning in this piece, is the acceptance that this is acceptable behavior. Note..:her office’s leverage with Wal-Mart is currently “very limited.” That’s because Wal-Mart is not asking for tax incentives or other public subsidies that would require D.C. Council approval. What is it that is being “negotiated? Either they have the right to build, or they do not. The fact that over 1500 jobs may be created, that the stores will be in the areas that are desperate for resources that are not available, are lost in the conversation. But the best part? It may cause some criminal records!

The first of four Wal-Marts planned for the District where they would probably be built, the residents have more immediate, street-level concerns:

Brenda Speaks, a Ward 4 ANC commissioner, actually urged blocking construction of the planned store in her ward at Georgia and Missouri avenues NW partly because of that risk. Addressing a small, anti-Wal-Mart rally at City Hall on Monday, Speaks said young people would get criminal records when they couldn’t resist the temptation to steal.

“I’ll believe it when I see it,” Mya Harris, 24, said skeptically. “Sure, you can put the store here, but what are they going to put inside it?”

Second, and I was amazed when this anxiety was aired in fully half the interviews, residents worry that the store would suffer severely or even fail because of petty theft.

“There’ll probably be a lot of shoplifting going on. They’ll need a lot of security,” Terriea Sutton, 35, said.

Also, the Respect DC coalition of nonprofit groups, unions and churches that organized the demonstration wasn’t actually trying to keep Wal-Mart out. Its main demand was that the company sign a citywide Community Benefits Agreement that would promise in writing to do things such as invest in local communities and treat its workers well.

“It does seem Wal-Mart is showing a willingness to change and do things differently, which is why we’re asking for them to negotiate rather than opposing their entry altogether,” said Mackenzie Baris, one of the coalition’s leaders .

Planning director Tregoning said she was “very supportive” of asking Wal-Mart to sign such an agreement but noted that her office’s leverage with Wal-Mart is currently “very limited.” That’s because Wal-Mart is not asking for tax incentives or other public subsidies that would require D.C. Council approval. Washington Post
