Energy crisis out West causes Black Outs and loss of heat

Other than Drudge, one would never know there was a major energy crisis out West. Not a word on Fox. Coming through-out America if we don’t get going pronto in drilling for our energy. Here tis: Prison Planet who does a great story round up. Obama is keeping his promise and apparently, no one seems to be noticing.

Fury is building over rolling nationwide blackouts triggered by the Obama administration’s deliberate agenda to block the construction of new coal-fired plants, as local energy companies struggle to meet Americans’ power demands amidst some of the coldest weather seen in decades.

– Thousands in New Mexico have been left without natural gas as Gov. Susana Martinez on Thursday declared a state of emergency. “Due to statewide natural gas shortages, I have ordered all government agencies that do not provide essential services to shut down and all nonessential employees to stay home” on Friday, Martinez said after meeting with public safety personnel in Albuquerque,” reports the Associated Press.

– Borderland residents have been asked to limit their use of natural gas as the Texas Gas Service asks that larger commercial facilities voluntarily close their doors to save supplies.

– People in Tucson have been asked to limit their use of hot water and moderate their thermostat levels to save on energy.

– Shortages of natural gas in San Diego County has forced utility companies to “cut or reduce the gas supplied to some of their largest commercial and industrial customers,” reports North County Times.

– In El Paso, “Hundreds of thousands of electricity customers continue to face periodic blackouts, and nearly 900 gas customers still have no heat,” reports the El Paso Times, with El Paso Electric resorting to using generators in a struggle to meet demand while still having to implement forced outages.

Back in July 2008, a Superior Court judge in Fulton County blocked the construction of a coal plant in Georgia, citing global warming concerns and the need to limit CO2 emissions.

– In January 2009, the Obama EPA blocked approval for a coal-fired power plant in South Dakota, claiming the state, “didn’t meet requirements under the Clean Air Act in part of its proposed permit for the plant.”

– As Governor of Kansas, Obama’s current Secretary of Health and Human Services Kathleen Sebelius slapped a de facto ban on the construction of all new coal-fired plants across the state.

– Last month, Senators in Obama’s home state of Illinois blocked the construction of a clean-burning coal gasification and power generating plant.

– As a result of the EPA’s recent remand of air permits, Shell Oil announced yesterday that it has “dropped plans to drill in the Arctic waters of the Beaufort Sea this year,” ensuring more shortages and higher energy prices for Americans already laboring under soaring food costs.

The federal government’s siege against independent power companies’ efforts to build coal-fired plants is part of the unfolding agenda to de-industrialize the United States even as China and Mexico build new power plants at ever accelerating speeds. Full Story: Prison Planet

FCC Orders Newsrooms To Partner With Soros-Funded Non-Profits

UPDATE: Huffington’s Investigative News Network may be cause for AOL purchase? Huffington Post AOL Deal– Does George Soros money come with it?

Slowly, we are learning more about the merger of Comcast and NBC. Not that NBC could carry George Soros’s water any more than they do, but it is stunning that there is no shame. Of course the next step will be to throttle Fox News. In my opinion, they already have made good strides in that direction. Here tis:

Under the terms of the FCC order approving Comcast’s takeover of NBCU, at least half of NBC’s 10 O&Os have to find a nonprofit news center with which to work within the next year. The order cites the KNSD-VoiceOfSanDiego.org alliance as the model for what it would like to see in other NBC markets.

Proponents of the growing nonprofit news movement are hoping that NBC’s FCC-mandated efforts will bear fruit and encourage other commercial TV stations to seek out nonprofit partners.

There’s just one problem with this: Voice of San Diego is a member of INN (Investigative News Network) which is funded by the Open Society Institute, the URL of which is “www.soros.org.” Yes, these “non-profit” journalism centers are funded by George Soros. Full Story at Big Journalism

Recall our earlier post: NBC-Comcast cave to FCC Diversity :

NBCU will strive to ensure the presentation of diverse viewpoints by seeking the expanded participation of minorities on its news and public affairs programming,” the companies promised in writing to black leaders. “To advance this goal, NBCU will consider suggestions from the African American Advisory Council of individuals who could be considered for such participation.”

“In addition, Comcast Cable is committed to launching a package o f 40-60 Spanish-language channels in all of its major Latino markets, with a balanced mix of programming serving all demographics and strongly promoting a diversity of Latino voices,” the companies promised in writing to Hispanic leaders. “Comcast Cable also will more than double its 600 hours of Latino VOD content, continue to add SAP-enabled offerings, and offer thousands of choices within a few years.”

The media giants also agreed to allow black leaders to have influence over NBC’s news programming. In addition to programming “diversity,” the Comcast and NBC Universal Memorandums of Understanding with different race-specific civil rights groups promise “diversity” in company employment, in supplier and vendor procurement and in “philanthropy and community investment.”

China Maneuvers for U.S. Defense Contracts

I am not surprised anymore by anything…at least I thought so. So let me get this straight. China wants to build our defense items? Anyone want to bet that G.E. has something to do with this?

AVIC’s new L-15 trainer jet

BEIJING—The maker of China’s new stealth fighter jet has teamed up with a tiny, unprofitable California company to try to launch bids for U.S. defense contracts, possibly including one to supply Chinese helicopters to replace the aging Marine One fleet used by the president, according to people involved in the partnership.

AVIC already supplies civilian aircraft components to U.S. companies, but U.S. officials and lawmakers have expressed concern about U.S. technology being diverted to AVIC’s military arm through such cooperation. Really??

AVIC has been in talks for more than a year with California-based U.S. Aerospace Inc. about offering the AC-313—China’s largest domestically produced helicopter—as the next generation of Marine One, the people involved in the partnership say.

They say the two companies have also been discussing putting forward AVIC’s new L-15 trainer jet as a candidate to replace the U.S. Air Force’s fleet of Northrop T-38s, which entered service 50 years ago and on which American fighter pilots learn skills such as how to fly at supersonic speeds.

Egyptian Women and the Practice of Female Genital Mutilation

A 2005 report by UNICEF suggested that 97% of Egyptian women between the ages of 15 and 49 who have never been married have undergone some form of FGM or circumcision. 6

An older meta-study on “female sexual castration” presented in 1989-MAR showed that five surveys conducted between 1977 and 1985 estimated that 80.5% of Egyptian women in Cairo and Alexandria had undergone FGM. 4

I am suggesting we are viewing the problems in Egypt with the lens of a 21st Century Westerner. We have assumed that they “must” want a democracy. Have we not heard that this is a universal desire? Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness for all. Exception though, for women. But we will let that one pass.

I am bringing forth this sensitive topic for the purpose of attempting to illuminate that not everyone holds the same values as ourselves. I see so many similarities between Egypt and Iran. It was the Shah’s wife as well, who pushed for education for women. A more westernized approach to culture. The Clerics were furious. We know the outcome.

So what is that we do know about Egyptian Culture? I suggest we understand very little about these people. That we share less in common than we wish for. Could we ever understand what they do to their little girls? It is repulsive to us, and we look at it as one of the worse forms of child abuse. Our ethnocentrism is getting in our way and in the way of Egypt.

First we know that the majority of Egyptians embrace Sharia law. That is not a shared value. See: Majority of Egyptians want Sharia Law

Second, and I think most importantly, we do not share the value of women, and their role in society. Nothing could be more striking than the support of “female sexual castration” or otherwise known as Female Genital Mutilation.

During 2007-JUN, Ahmad ‘Aliwa, a women’s rights activist, described one finding that shows the near universal practice of FGM in Egypt, noting:

“The Center for Social Studies conducted a survey which showed that 85% of the prostitutes in Egypt were circumcised. There is no relation between female circumcision and the girls’ behavior.” 5

Now let us review this evil dictator Mubarak and his wife. Not enemies of Israel and the United States of late. Who managed to keep the radicals at bay with often brute force, similar to the Shah, to stop the radicals who would have their country dissolve back into a 11th century state again. Who, with his wife, attempted to take on the Clerics and as an example, the practice of Female Genital Mutilation.

FGM debate in Egypt:

Mohammed Sayyed Tantawi, head of the al-Azhar Islamic Institute, had stated during the 1990s that the practice is un-Islamic. The Health Minister of Egypt, Ismail Sallam, announced a ban on FGM in 1996-JUL. This was upheld by a junior administrative court in Cairo.

Sheik Youssef Badri, a Muslim fundamentalist, took the health minister to court. In 1997-JUN, an Egyptian court overturned the ban. Eight Muslim scholars and doctors had testified that the ban exceeded the government’s authority and violated the legal rights of the medical profession. Sheik Youssef Badri commented:

[Female] circumcision is Islamic; the court has said that the ban violated religious law. There’s nothing which says circumcision is a crime, but the Egyptians came along and said that Islam is a crime.”

The government appealed the case to Egypt’s Supreme Administrative Court. They ruled that the operation is not required by Islam, and that “female circumcision is not a personal right according to the rules of Islamic Sharia (law).” Thus, FGM is subject to Egyptian law. The government prohibited the procedure, even if it is done with the agreement of the child and her parents. However, gynecologists are still allowed to perform the surgery if it is needed for health reasons.

The BBC reported in 2007 that:

“Egypt’s first lady, Susanne Mubarak, has spoken out strongly against female circumcision, saying that it is a flagrant example of continued physical and psychological violence against children which must stop.” 7

Religious Tolerance Org

And in our Country? We have had our own brush with FGM. Only last Spring, the American Academy of Pediatrics supported a form of this in order to mollify the Muslims in our country. The hope was that this would reduce this more virulent form of  this “surgery”. Several months later, they were forced to retract the policy.

EQUALITY NOW CALLS ON AAP TO REVOKE ELEMENTS OF ITS 2010 POLICY STATEMENT THAT ENDORSES PEDIATRICIANS’ “NICKING” OF GIRLS’ GENITALIA

NEW YORK, May 5 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ — International human rights organization Equality Now is stunned by a new policy statement issued by the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP), which essentially promotes female genital mutilation (FGM) and advocates for “federal and state laws [to] enable pediatricians to reach out to families by offering a ‘ritual nick’,” such as pricking or minor incisions of girls’ clitorises. The Policy Statement “Ritual Genital Cutting of Female Minors“, issued by the AAP on April 26, 2010, is a significant set-back to the Academy’s own prior statements on the issue of FGM and is antithetical to decades of noteworthy advancement across Africa and around the world in combating this human rights violation against women and girls.
