Almost Half of Ireland is Privately Insured, Despite Free National Health Insurance

Obamacare has been swallowed up with all of the news out there. I caught this story, and thought it worthy of a post. For anyone who thought that at the worst, we might be able to purchase our own private insurance, this is a lesson. You think that you will escape the government? Ireland now increased a 40 percent “levy” on insurance companies. “Levy”??

Despite the fact that all individuals have access to public health insurance, a near majority of Irish residents also buy private health insurance as well. In June 2012, 2,123 million people — or 46.3 percent of the population — held private health insurance.

Private health insurance, however, is under attack. In June 2012 there were 61,000 less people privately insured than in June 2011.

The reason for this is the rise in cost of private health insurance, due in part to a 40 per cent increase in the Government levy on private health insurance announced at the beginning of the year. In fact, the rise in private healthcare costs has been a leading contributor to the rise in the consumer price index over the last year. From NCPA

what we should all also know is how many Germans have their own private health insurance….When Schroeder was in office, he was begging Germans to buy private insurance because they simply couldn’t afford the German plan anymore! Think OUR media told us THAT? (ya, right)

We are in for one bad ride if we do not turn the idiots out of office. They care not one wit for our country and us.

Sad, sad, sad! Several years ago Ireland lowered their corporate tax rate to 12%. They experienced an unparalleled economic boom. They were the envy of Europe with their high GDP. All was well for a few years. Ireland actually had surplus revenues. Then the social went on a spending spree and soon they were spending far more than they were taking in. The boom grew bigger and they were sure it would never end. Then came 2008 and the rest is history. The socialist won’t give up and one of their principle goals is single payer universal health care (socialized medicine). Sounds familiar, doesn’t it?

Lessons to be learned from others, but apparenty no one wants to listen.

The same will happen here. Government must end up choking out “competition” from the private sector, and even then, all they end up doing is creating scarcity.

If the National Health Insurance was so great, why was everyone buying private insurance? Silly question. The government will literally kill many of us.
